Wood & tile floor transition

We have an open plan kitchen, dining, sitting area. I want to put wooden floors in the living area and tiles in the kitchen and have a smooth transition between the two.

Attached plans. We are putting the table in the corner window behind the breakfast bar.

Where would be th best place for the wooden floors to end and the tiles to start?

Why not run the wood all the way through I don't think there is a logical transition place

I agree with Patricia , with the current furniture placement and the room layout I would select one floor covering.

If you are doing in-floor heating (hydronic heating) I would go with tile. If you are not, go with wood. That's from the energy and comfort perspective. It's OK to look at the two options and choose the one that's most attractive. Don't feel like you need to optimize for energy with every decision. Also, both flooring materials are reflective acoustically. Plan your other surfaces accordingly, or you'll drive yourself batty with echoes.

Hi, I would incline to tiling the whole space in one material. Now, with that you have lots of options in terms of material choices. If you have underfloor heating I would recommend to go for porcelain tiles - they come in wide range of colours, patterns, stone and wood imitations. Marble and wood imitating tiles are very popular and timeless such as calacatta white marble, creme marfil marble, granite, slate. Wood porcelain tiles range from blonde tones, light, dark browns to almost black, zebrano. Porcelain tiles technology has evolved so much over the last decade that an untrained eye can not distinguish the porcelain from the real thing. And if you have children it's so much more practical as well. Easy to clean and maintain. However, if you don't have the option of underfloor heating I would recommend wooden flooring. Again throughout. I wouldn't break the flow with different flooring types. If you have your living room in that open plan as well, I wouldn't worry too much about changing the flooring type just because of it. You can always use large rugs to define the area and function of that space, and make it more cosy. I just completed a project with porcelain tiles throughout. You can have a look at my profile. We have the wood look tile in our bathrooms, with under floor heat. I think they look nice and work great for the bathrooms. However, for your whole house you might want to think about the fact that they won't have the soft/warm feeling of real wood. They will sound like tile when people walk on them (loud footsteps when shoes are on), they are hard like tile, they are cold like tile (when the heat is off) and they will be echo-ey like tile.

I agree, there doesn't seem to be a good break point for the tile/wood to meet.

What you could consider is a tiled area behind the island - same width as island -
if that is the "wet" area - sink, dishwasher.

I have friends who did all wood in kitchen and wished they had done the one area in tile.

With the shape of the room and where you want to place the furniture there really isn’t a good place for a floor change. If you are dead set against wood flooring in the kitchen but like the look why not install wood look porcelain tiles. This might just be the answer you are looking for. They come in many different shades, colors and styles. Beautiful!

I have the same dilemma Open floor plan and not squared off

I've been searching the internet and found one floor where the tile and wood meet in a relaxed semi-circle
