Family room and outdoor Loggia
Nestled among the citrus groves, olive trees, rolling foothills and lush fairways of Rancho Santa Fe is Casa Tramonto -- a Mediterranean-style estate for a multi-generational family. The home is laid out in a traditional U shape, providing maximum light and access to outdoor spaces. A separate courtyard connects to a guest house for an elder parent that now lives with the family, allowing proximity yet plenty of privacy for everyone.

Distressed faux wood beams (ordered from Home Depot) were stained to give the desired look yet keep the project on budget. The original wood beams the homeowner desired were 4x the cost.

Our clients wanted a lot of comfortable seating, so we chose a sectional that can accommodate six to seven people, plus two arm chairs and an ottoman that can double as another seat. The layout encourages conversation or watching a movie or sports on the wall-mounted TV. A fire is optional.

This Great room, featured in Best of Design Today by Shiffer Publishing, showcases our clients taste. We covered the sectional in a soft damask pattern. To keep it formal, we place a bullion fringe at the base of the skirt. In lieu of a coffee table, a pair of painted tea tables with a claw foot base. Opposite them are a pair of skirted ottomans with tassels on the corners. Our color pallette was dicated by the use of the green celedaon, which our client loves.

This majestic Moorish inspired oceanfront retreat built in 1928 is one of the most unique homes available on Sea Island. For those with an affinity for The Cloister, this cottage features replicated Spanish windows, very much like those in the Spanish Lounge, as well as wonderful period furnishings (included in the purchase price) and outstanding detail throughout. The floor plan, with seven bedrooms, seven full and three half baths, is great for a large family, creating suites that allow maximum privacy. Renovated in 2003 and 2007, this oceanfront cottage offers an inviting lap pool, expansive raised terrace, bocce court, private beach access and partially furnished.
