Stained concrete floors were replaced with warm acacia wood, beige walls were refreshed with white paint and a robins egg blue accent wall. The teal sofa, green rug, and blue/green/yellow coffee table pull the color scheme together. The overall effect is a lighter, brighter, more cheerful space. Photo: Kristina Knapp

My House Design/Build Team | www.myhousedesignbuild.com | 604-694-6873 | Duy Nguyen Photography -------------------------------------------------------Right from the beginning it was evident that this Coquitlam Renovation was unique. It’s first impression was memorable as immediately after entering the front door, just past the dining table, there was a tree growing in the middle of home! Upon further inspection of the space it became apparent that this home had undergone several alterations during its lifetime... The homeowners unabashedness towards colour and willingness to embrace the home’s mid-century architecture made this home one of a kind. The existing T&G cedar ceiling, dropped beams, and ample glazing naturally leant itself to a mid-century space.

A bright sitting area in Mid-century inspired remodel. The 2 armchairs covered in grey and white patterned fabric create a striking focal point against the green grasscloth covered walls. An oversized terracotta planter holds natural branches for decoration. The large standing light with white circular lamp shade brings soft light to the area at nights while slatted wooden blinds keep the direct sunlight at bay during the day.

The 3 bathrooms in this 1970's house were in serious need of remodeling - as in gut and re-build - so the owners decided to have them all done at once and while at it, refinish the floors, refurnish the living room and furnish the new screen porch addition. As a designer in a seasonal resort area, I am accustomed to working with my customers long distance. Using (and e-mailing) computer drafted renderings, product layout pages very professional builders, suppliers and steady communication, my client and I moved flawlessly through the challenges all remodel projects present. My goal was to find fabrics and furnishings that reflected the home's original architectural Mid Century Modern integrity The house has very strong horizontal lines that I wanted to repeat in the furniture, bathroom fixtures, tile and light fixture selections. Inspired by the lobby of the iconic Riviera Hotel lobby in Palm Springs, the wall was removed and replaced with a screen block wall that creates a sense of connection to the rest of the house, while still defining the den area. Gray cork flooring makes a neutral backdrop, allowing the architecture of the space to be the champion. Rose quartz pink and modern greens come together in both furnishings and artwork to help create a modern lounge.
