Ways to Work an Angled Lamp into Any Room
Add style and practicality in one go with this lighting classic
The angled lamp has long been considered a design classic. Both practical – with its super-adjustability – and attractive to look at, its popularity shows no signs of abating. It’s available in a huge range of colours and finishes, as well as different sizes, from perfectly formed mini Anglepoises to supersized floor lamps. Take a look at these ideas and be inspired to bring your lighting scheme up a notch.
Highlight a good read
If you love to read in bed, make sure you have adequate light so you don’t ever miss a bit. If you do recreate this at home, remember to pick a lamp with a handle to help angle the light, as moving it when it’s been on a while might result in sore fingers!

Make it monochrome
Step up an all-white interior by picking a black angled floor lamp. With its clean lines, it stands out beautifully. The key to achieving a look like this is to clear the clutter. Just try not to let anyone see inside your cupboard!

Shine a light on your reading nook
A reading nook will be all the better with the addition of an angled lamp. Depending on what you’re doing in the room, you can move the lamp around, shining it up and out for a wider path of light, or angling it down and over for a cosy reading session.

Whip up a storm in the kitchen
Consider mixing up the lighting in your kitchen by adding a wall-mounted angle lamp. It will help bring additional light to the room, and be super handy for anything that needs more focused concentration, such as cake decorating.

Supersize it
If you’re blessed with a large living and dining space, like the one here, an extra-large angled floor lamp is a great option. It’ll light up the dining table, and be a great conversation starter, too.

Brighten up your craft room
An angled lamp is both practical and attractive for craft rooms. If you have more than one table or a workshop area, having more than one light will be so handy. Used in conjunction with overhead spotlights, as in this scheme, the room will be well lit and ready for you to get your craft on.

Draw attention to a feature
Lighting is a fantastic way to highlight special features in your room, such as ceramics or artworks. Here, a small, Anglepoise-style lamp lights up a painting, the rich green chiming with the tones in the art and the decorative ceramics on the shelf.

Angled lamps come in every colour of the rainbow, and can complement any look. But if your heart beats a little faster for the industrial trend (as mine does) go for a brushed metal lamp, and pair it with a metal bedside table. The tin tile wall is the icing on the cake.
