As part of a new series, we’re inviting influencers, designers and homeowners to create their dream homes by patchworking together their favourite Houzz images. This time, interiors blogger Sally Smith of Smith Home Style lets us have a sneak peek at her fantasy pad. Tell us what you think and share your own Dream Houzz Ideabook in the Comments below.
The living room
As an interiors blogger, Smith takes inspiration from the spaces around her. This bright and airy loft room in her fantasy home would be sure to get her creative juices flowing.
“What a cool, loft-style sitting room. I wouldn’t be able to resist the sun streaming through those large windows in the morning to lift my spirits and put me in a creative mood. I’d have to have this room in my dream house.”

The piano room
Everyone’s dream home can have enough space for hobbies of all kinds, and although her hobby doesn’t need a huge space, Smith would like it to be private.
“In my dream house, I’d have to have a hidden corner where I could play the piano without anyone being able to hear me practising! Pianos can run the risk of looking quite austere and old-fashioned, but this one looks great, and I love the vintage twist.”

The kitchen
The popularity of open shelving in kitchens just keeps growing. They allow you to show off your best cookspace paraphernalia, and are a great way to work the shabby-chic trend, which is just the look Smith would like in her dream kitchen.
“In an ideal world, I’d love a rustic-style kitchen with open shelving and a shabby-chic feel. But in reality, my clean-freak self just wouldn’t allow it, and I’d drive myself crazy trying to keep it clean and tidy. Although too stressful in reality, it would be perfect in my dream house, where I wouldn’t have to do any cleaning anyway!”

The pantry
Pantries are all but a distant dream for many of us, and having one of this size – and this organised – would probably feature in most of our fantasy homes. Smith has the right idea for hers.
“As far as I’m concerned, the bigger the better. That’s why a professional walk-in pantry like this one would suit me perfectly. With storage as organised and spacious as this, I’d never lose anything again in cluttered kitchen cupboards.”

The utility room
Having a dedicated space to hide laundry, bedding and other miscellaneous things that don’t have a place is just what a lot of us seem to need in our dream homes. Smith has chosen a light, fresh and clean space that coordinates well with her rustic fantasy kitchen.
“A utility room just like this would make my life a lot easier. I hope I’m not the only one, but I seem to spend a lot of time looking for towels and bedding in my small, cluttered laundry cupboard at home, where I can never find anything! This room looks so organised, and beautifully decorated, too.”

The bathroom
Sometimes, less is more. And that’s exactly how Smith has gone about choosing her dream bathroom.
“I don’t really need a big bathroom. A simple space with a quirky vintage feel like this one would put a smile on my face in the morning. I absolutely love the his ’n’ hers basins – what a treat!”

The bedroom
To continue her rustic, vintage feel, Smith has chosen a laid-back, casual space created with pastel shades – one of her favourite colour schemes.
“What a calming room to be in, surrounded by beautiful pastel colours and a lot of space – two things I love. I would without a doubt feel as if I was on holiday every day.”

The walk-in wardrobe
A walk-in closet is probably on the wish-lists of most – if not all – Houzzers, and Smith is no exception.
“If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s mess. I never seem to have enough space to put my things away at home. Clothes, bags and shoes are strewn all over my bedroom. This walk-in wardrobe looks so practical and organised, it’s the dream. Oh, and it would have to be all mine, too!”

The writer’s hut
As a writer and stylist of all things interiors, Smith needs the ultimate workspace to really get inspired.
“Because I work from home, I’d love a hideaway just like this at the bottom of the garden, so I could shut myself away from the rest of the house. It would feel as if I was in my very own secret garden, which would be a dreamy place to work.”

The garden
A large, relaxed seating area overlooking the water is Smith’s ultimate outdoor space.
“I love being near the water, and this looks like the most exotic setting in which to relax, take in the view and have a coffee with friends or a glass of something fizzy at the end of the day. It looks so warm and inviting.”

This is one of the most important rooms in the home. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in – and first impressions count! On Smith’s blog, you can read about her love of Victorian tiles in her own hallway, so it’s easy to see why she chose this bright and airy space for her fantasy home.
“What a fabulous Victorian-style hallway. There’s plenty of space to pile in the door after a walk with Alfie, our much-loved white Westie, and there’s enough room to dump our coats, boots and bags, whatever the weather – it’s perfect for a busy household. Those cement floor tiles are stunning, and go perfectly with the period of the house.”
