This week, it’s the turn of interiors blogger and stylist Sarah Akwisombe. Tell us what you think and share your own Dream Houzz Ideabook in the Comments below.
The exterior
This is quite possibly every Art Deco lover’s dream. A combination of clean curves, large windows and a crisp white exterior is the perfect way to gain some kerb appeal. A clear blue sky always helps, too! Interiors blogger Sarah Akwisombe knows how to make a statement with her dream exterior.
“OMG – the absolute dream house,” she says. “I’m obsessed with Art Deco and midcentury architecture, and this residence looks as if it combines the best of both. Plus palm trees. Yes!”

The hallway
The entrance to your home is a great place to make a statement, and Akwisombe’s dream hallway does just that.
“I love this statement wallpaper for a hallway,” she enthuses. “The entrance to your home is what guests will always see first, so I love it when it has a big, in-your-face impact.”

The lobby
In your fantasy house, the possibilities are endless. If you’ve toured Akwisombe’s swanky home office on her blog, you’ll see that this lobby is a reflection of her love of black, gold and bold.
“Incredible lobby! I love how the geometric floor pattern has been continued up on the ceiling. So many people are scared of bold ceilings, but I think this works incredibly well,” she says.

The staircase
With such an extensive lobby, it would only be right to have a staircase to match. With this fabulous sweep fitting right in with Akwisombe’s style, it’s clear to see why it’s on her fantasy home wish list.
“This is the most perfect Art Deco staircase. With all this drama happening, would you even need to decorate? Most people would probably think no, but combine that staircase with a bold colour on the walls and this could be right up my street.”

The kitchen
Mixing contemporary features in a period setting can really make a bold statement. The owner of this space has made the most of the panelling on the walls and the high ceiling by opting for low-level cupboards and large, opulent mirrors. It’s no wonder this luxury kitchen would appear in Akwisombe’s dream home.
“Sleek and modern with a little bit of history. Kitchens are one place where I like to be a bit more modern with my styling, but the architectural details of this room keep the soul of the home in place,” she says.

The dining room
The eclectic look can be tricky to achieve, but in Akwisombe’s dream home, this chic dining room looks both effortless and stylish.
“I love the mix of chairs around this table,” she says. “The contrast of colours and shapes works really well. Far from it looking higgledy-piggledy or shabby chic, it’s eclectic and clever.”

To continue her Art Deco and midcentury mix, Akwisombe has found another piece to feature in her dream living room.
“Lighting goals! Jonathan Adler is one of my design idols. He always gets eclectic so right and his rooms feel fun but refined. I’m obsessed with brass and midcentury pieces, and this light is the best of both,” she says.

The sitting room
When building her dream home, Akwisombe thought about how she could make things easier when she’s working from home, but still have a look in keeping with her style.
“If only I could ever keep my home this neat,” she says. “The ceiling height here adds massive drama and so much light, which would be great for when I’m shooting photographs for my blog or styling projects. And how amazing is that velvet couch?!”

The snug
“I love the drama of this room. The two armchairs are fabulous. They’re super-glam, but could also be made to look edgy and rebellious – just my style,” Akwisombe says.

The bedroom
Bedrooms are often seen as a sanctuary of serenity and peace, but not in Akwisombe’s fantasy pad, where colour is key.
“I love the slickness of this room. I’d probably want to add a lot more colour and clutter, but as a starting point, it’s fab,” she says. “The dark walnut really adds a glamorous feel. I’m not one for light wood at all.”

The doors
“I’m a huge fan of these chunky blue doors, and the oversized handles make them so tactile,” Akwisombe says. “Painting doors the same colour as the walls is such a great trick. It’s high impact and looks very slick.”

The bathroom
Many of us dream of having a large bathroom with a freestanding tub and walk-in shower. But some of us wouldn’t trade our compact bathrooms, even in our dream home. Akwisombe knows how to make the most of a small bathing space.
“I love these aqua tiles, so 1930s!” she enthuses. “The use of the mirror above the dado rail makes even this small room look larger. It’s practical but also packs a punch.”
