Estate Home
A Grand Renaissance
This Irish country estate set on twelve acres of land was a true blank canvas having been allowed to fall into complete disrepair. Restoring it to its former glory required a top-to-toe refurbishment inspired by the owners’ love of travel. The result was a highly bespoke design which added a modern twist to the mansion’s imposing grandeur.
Balancing old and new was a theme that was carried throughout the house. The marble floor of the entrance hall was inspired by the owner’s love of the Goring Hotel in London and yet a Julian Chichester sideboard and mirror maintained a contemporary feel. In each room, custom-made Murano glass chandeliers by Villa Verde reflected the influence of Venice. The family’s link to Switzerland was strongly in evidence by a mural of the Matterhorn Peak in the bathroom, complete with specially commissioned, brass-framed shower door.
The opulent bar and rooftop jacuzzi made this a house for entertaining and yet it needed to work as a day-to-day family home. The traditional furnishings of the formal reception room contrasted with the contemporary German kitchen and colourful playroom. Colour popped throughout the house with eye-catching fabrics from Designers Guild and Romo. Comfortable built-in window seats ensured plenty of places to relax and take-in the view. In this way the house could easily be all things to all people whilst being entirely and utterly true to the personalities of its occupants.
