I need a new rug for my sitting room

I got my new couch yesterday and I love it! So, the next thing I need is a new rug for the floor. Currently what I have down is a square of carpet left over from when upstairs was done. I don't know whether to stick to grey, like the piece of carpet, go for a solid colour to match the highlights in the couch or a patterned rug. I will also be getting a new coffee table - this is a cheapie from Ikea I got to tide me over. I know there's still a lot to be done to the room but I want to concentrate on the rug first.
Here are a couple of rugs I have seen (one in the pic, two links) - what do people think? Any pictures and links to other suggestions would be great.

Comments (6)I'm thinking a warm gray...it would accent the mirror and go beautifully with the color of the fire surround and the gray floor. You could do the chimney breast (the bumped out wall) in a slightly darker shade that the other walls. As noted above, look at the Affinity Colors from Ben Moore as your inspiration, then you can look at other manufacturers. Actually, magnolia is a classic and maybe you're best to add colour in your furnishings/accessories, as you have with your new curtains. We need to see the furniture etc. as well. Comments (15)We just painted a color called "Latte" over the dark red walls in our place and we keep thinking that someone left the light on! It adds that much light to the place as the red was just sucking out any light in the place. Find a color you like more for that wall and repaint...and/or maybe add a ceramic tile backsplash? It will make it feel brighter in there immediately as you will get a lot of light reflection. 8 years agoI'm back and I'm still struggling with a rug decision...I'm terrible at making decisions! I've developed some very basic photoshop skills to get an idea of what different rugs would look like. Here are a few I have found and a couple from this post. Am I playing it too safe going for just a plain teal rug? I guess I just haven't found 'the one' yet that is jumping out and grabbing me.

8 years agoI like both of these rugs, the first one brings a lot of pop to the room and the second is more subtle but still ties everything in the room together.
