Comments (4)shelly12345...not sure if you have completed your fireplace/room, just saw this post while looking for help with my own family room. I think would paint the fireplace and mirror white...would match the trim work of your room and your lighter furnishings. Something that was suggested to me...use some fabric or poster board to cover the wood on both, just to give you an idea of what it would look like white. That way you are not committed once the paint has been applied to the wood. I love Dytectur's idea of wallpapering the room and having the fireplace wall white. Would really pop! Good luck and post pictures if your finished or when you finish....See MoreNeed help with with sitting room - Ireland
Comments (14)What an awkward space! The door opens into the room where the hearth juts out, making it even narrower. In an ideal world I would want to make the fireplace smaller (a flat hole in the wall with no hearth) and change the door to open outwards. However I'm guessing they may not be options! You need the room to work in 2 ways, one as a cosy space for the adults in the evening and the other as a larger clear space for the kids during the day, a tough call! I would consider dividing the room into 2 defined areas, one for kids and one for adults. The adult space should be at the window end and mean moving the TV to the other side of the fireplace. The sofa could go under the end window and 2 chairs either side. This will be a tight fit, would you consider buying a new L shaped one in a more compact design? This could sit by the radiator with a chair opposite. A rug and coffee table would further define this space and make it feel cosy. At the other end, you could place your toy storage behind the door, (maybe invest in some more!) and then bean bags could give the kids some seating for watching TV and playing games. The TV being freestanding could swivel according to day/night position. I hope that gives you some ideas, I'll try to find some photos to illustrate what I mean! Good Luck!...See Morewant to paint my sitting room, it is painted magnolia I want to change it and paint the long wall where the fi
Comments (2)Yes, we definitely need to see the fireplace before commenting! Actually, magnolia is a classic and maybe you're best to add colour in your furnishings/accessories, as you have with your new curtains. We need to see the furniture etc. as well. So glad you decided to consult with us on Houzz. It's such a great resource. Welcome :)...See MoreNeed help matching new living room blinds to our furniture
Comments (5)Thanks so much Studio M Interior Design! I feel much happier with my decision to go with those blinds after your lovely feedback :) I think a blue rug sounds lovely and I could keep it small. I also need to buy a very small nest of tables and some cushions, any suggestions on colours very welcome! All the best Evelyn...See MoreDell123
