Staircase

What do we think about the staircase facing opposite direction to the entrance door of the house? Good or bad idea? Attached is pics Iv found on Houzz they follow this style or are these pics taken from the back entrance of the house?

No pics attached but where the staircase is in a house is somewhat irrelevant. What IS relevant is that the stair act as a creative connector between floors, serving a function beyond vertical circulation. Poor stair dissect a house. Great stairs connect it.

Justine, in the case of a fire (probably starting in the kitchen) there must be direct escape (half hour protection at least) from the bedrooms in the attic to the exterior, it is not permissible to escape through a kitchen. The new stairs should be separate from the kitchen, if this is not possible then the attic should only be used as a study or play room and not a bedroom. Hi, we have wooden stairs and under the layers of paint the wood is covered in a black layer of something. I’ve used some paint stripper on it so far and it starts to remove it but I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and know what it is and best way of removing it?

Sliding Door in hallway at bottom of stairs - Regulations

Is it OK to place a sliding door at the bottom of a stairs to minimise the draft from a hallway? The stairs forks off at a 90 degree angle halfway down a long hallway, you don't see it when looking down the hallway, the first step is flush with the hallway's right wall, the sliding door therefore would be placed on the side wall of the hallway, sliding either left or right and not impinging on the hallway. The stairs itself is bricked walled each side so is enclosed in its own space. I wondering if placing a sliding door will go against any building regulations. Thanks.
