how can i make the most of thsi fire place?
Comments (6)Agree with Judith too, paint all one colour as back wall. I like the fireplae and wouldn't replace it. That mirror it too big and not very interesting, doesn't do anything for the wall or the fireplace. The gold I suspect clashes with the metal on the surround, bit too new and shiny. I think a great piece of artwork would really set off the fireplace and make it a gorgeous focal point. As the fireplace is very angular I suggest a more organic colourful piece to soften it up a bit. A real painting rather than a print if you can. Keep an eye out at markets, second hand stores ... or even eBay!...See MoreHow to decorate wall behind fireplace
Comments (8)I love your room, but it isn't done! Find some jazzy art to hang over the fireplace in vibrant colors. Select a major and minor color from the art work and add pillows, and 3 accessories that are LARGE to place on three places in the book shelves. If you like what you see at that point you are probably done, but if not then I think a glass and steel cocktail table round or oval would add sparkle, interest, and function to your room.....it really looks nice....See MoreCan you help - matching new bed to some old furniture
Comments (0)My father left me a house in portugal and it has some mahogony furniture although the wardrobes are built in and I cannot remember what kind of wood they are. They look fine. it is quite minimilist and the walls are white which looks good. I was going to buy 2 double beds which were a pine wood frame simple modern design then I thought they would look out of place with the mahogany chest of drawers in one bedroom. The other bedroom only has a small table thing in mahogony which could be removed but I think it would be better to have everything the same not bitty. I have been looking at beds with fabric headboards steel grey or linen and one described as mocha with dark legs. I would like to have something neutral. I love natural wood simple modern design beds but I dont want to get rid of all the beatiful mahagony furniture so I am thinking a neutral colour like linen fabric bed with whte bed linen might look better. I am completely unable to picture it and decide. It is not much to go on but there is an example of mahogony with some of the beds for sale below. I would be very grateful for any suggestions Jill...See MoreSmall garden ideas and how to « hide » neighbour side wall
Comments (0)Hi there, My partner and I recently bought a house and we are delighted with it. I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to gardening but I’d like to have a nice little back garden nevertheless. The garden is quite small but the size doesn’t bother me at all. The only issue I have is the bins in the corner (I’m hoping to get bin covers at some point) and the neighbour’s side wall which is currently being built. I know it will look much nicer when the building and painting is done, and thankfully these windows will be frosted as they are their bathroom windows. However I’d like to have some ideas to « hide » or change the focal point of our back garden when I look out my kitchen windows. Is there any tall thin trees we could plant in the back ? I’d like to install a pergola at some point or a decking area in the back but it might be difficult then to plant trees near the wall? Do you have any ideas of how I could do both ?...See MoreTwelve O'clock Dream
