There are many options. Stainless steel undermount sinks are very easy to clean and suit quartz, granite or marble worksurfaces. Modern taps including those with a spray end look great with these sinks and worksurfaces. There are also belfast or apron sinks. They sit on a supporting unit and the worksurface is cut around them. They look great in the right setting but are very hard on handwashing items like plates as they come in ceramic or other materials. The cheapest sink is the layon style which overhangs the worksurface and collects a lot of muck in the join. Go to a kitchen showroom or two and ask a ton of questions. Layon is cheapest for a reason. Sinks also come in all sorts of materials now. Franke is a good make as well as 18/10, Blanco or any of the designer brands.

Isla Cherry great start thank you so much I am getting a walnut countertop ( don't like glossy and shiny and want to preserve the grain so i still have no idea how to seal it to protect it. And there are a million oils out there that its confusing!!!!!!!!!!!! Stainless gets really strached no?

Yes stainless steel does scratch, but so does ceramic and practically any other sink finish, but stainless steel takes it well. As Isla has already said, an under-counter sink needs a good waterproof worktop. Wood is not waterproof, even when oiled or waxed so don’t have an under-counter sink with wood or laminate, it will not fare well. I have a white ceramic sink that sits on the worktop. I have an oak worktop and it really doesn’t like the water. You have to mop it up pretty quick. A sink that sits op top of the worktop is better than under-mounted with wood. I use Osmo Top Oil on the wooden worktop, but I stress again it is only waterproof for a few seconds. Sitting water and splashes will mark the wood, oiled or not. A ceramic sink does scratch but it can be cleaned with bleach or Bar Keepers Friend to improve it. This is similar to my sink,

Sonia you are a beautiful soul thank you. I wonder if I surround the sink top with some porcalin tile to sep that area from the wood if I could protect it that way? How come you choose the oil you did there is soooooooooooooooo much conflicting info on oils, laquours ect on the internet..... so many hours watching youtube videos pro and cons of them.... can't figure it out

I would not choose a wooden worksurface for a laundry room. Depending on how large is the space quartz or a stone surface is much easier with water. Is this room exclusively for laundry? What functions do you need the sink to perform? It all depends on usage. If you never hand wash plates, cutlery or glasses then a stainless steel sink will not become scratched.

its a multi-purpose room. dh will have a workstation with same counter top for his hobbies/tools, its also for long term storage and extra pantry. I don't imagine doing plates in the sink but I never know!!

Ritabas, I chose Osmo Top Oil due to recommendations and good reviews. I’ve used Danish Oil and that’s fine too. This is reminding me I need to oil those worktops again!

If you shared a layout plan of what you are considering I could give you better advice. It is totally possible to have a combination of worksurfaces to avoid that wet wooden worktop around the sink situation.

here is the room excuse the mess. We plan on putting a door on the far end wall to use that as storage. We have not yet put up shelves for vertical shelving. After we do that the doors will go on.

I'd have the walnut for dh work area and as the area is quite compact for the sink, quartz would be a much more practical choice.

I have a white porcelain sink and I do really like it. It does get scratched, no avoiding that, but cleaning it with bleach, let it sit for a few minutes, rinse it and the scratches do fade for a little while. Barkeepers Friend does the same.

Durable depends entirely on the individual. Scratches add to steels patina but if you don't like scratches then skip the steel. I don't think there is a best option, its totally up to you. As it is a utitily room surely it is not your main sink anyway? It depends on what you use it for.

I do a lot of painting so maybe to wash out acrylic paint and dh does a lot of hobby building.... I don't like scratches I don't think it looks good.
