Need help designing new kitchen (new build)

We are trying to design our kitchen..... We got a kitchen designer to do up the plan and which I have attached. We do not want to go with the walnut and cream. We are thinking about a natural canvas and another pastel colour painted cabinets. We would like the kitchen to be a bit quirky. Not sure on placement of fridge or ovens. Any suggestions or advice would be so grateful.

thanks for posting the photos.

First, I feel like there is a mix of styles in the design that aren't really complementing each other. The waterfall walnut frame around the frig and wall oven areas is VERY modern. But the rounded front cooktop/bar, the divided light glass front cabinet doors, and molding on the upper cabinets are very traditional -- maybe even a bit 'cottage'. The looks are fighting each other IMHO.

Also, I would reconsider the placement of the wall ovens -- they seem very crowded back in that corner.

And the range hood going to the ceiling but the cabinets stopping short looks odd to me. Maybe a different hood with a narrower chimney would look better.

And, is that the dishwasher on the island? --- Yikes -- I would want that right next to the sink (otherwise you'll be dripping water all over the floor everytime you load it)

Yes, I would and did start with cabinets. Browse through he kitchen photos here on Houzz until you determine your favorite styles. Start a kitchen idea book and save every photo that has something you like, cabinets will be your biggest investment. Once you know your style, begin thinking about counter tops and backsplash. One or the other will be your "star." If you already have a favorite, try to coordinate other choices with it. For example, I found my backsplash first, then chose the counter to go with it. Often people have their counter in first then struggle to find a backsplash. If you fall in love with a beautiful, busy granite you will want a simple backsplash. My floor was last, keeping it simple to avoid clashing with other choices. Good luck and have fun! This can be an overwhelming project but your friends at Houzz can help!

HI... always lots of decisions when building a new house. When working with a neutral color palette- adding a material that provides contrast is always visually interesting. If you plan on adding red accessories- gray would certainly work. You could use a solid color quartz material or even Vermont soap stone which is inherently gray. Shades of brown with red and cream is also quite pretty. I just snapped a photo mixing some materials from a project in front of me-- this is arrowroot (the stone) and you can see on the fabric motif how pretty it is-- the brown and red next to each other in the fabric pattern. I think I would have one set off steps down and move the dividing presses to the side where your sink is, making it a peninsula. That would make for a nice L shaped banquette seating area where your blank wall is, and the gallery backdrop would be great there. You could also have a nice long table as opposed to the small square one. I also hope you don't mind me saying that I think you need to reconsider the placement of your hob. It's right beside a door which will be awkward and you have your back to the room when entertaining. You will have such a nice kitchen that you should make the most of it for entertaining. Even you consider putting it on the island facing the dining area?

I'll keep looking at this but at first glance if you are ok getting rid of the bathroom, it would make sense to incorporate into bedroom 2. I would make it smaller (does it need a bath?) And I would enlarge the hot press to allow for more storage of bed linen etc. For bedrooms 3 and 4 it seems hard to fit in an ensuite for b4 without impinging on b3. So my suggestion would be to take space off bedroom 3 and do a small ensuite along the wall where they meet. I know this makes both smaller but by taking the door of b out to the end of the stairs you could move the door of the ensuite to the wall where the sink currently is and that might give more space in the bedroom but it does look tight for a double!
