Borrowed light windows?

Hello!

We have a 1900s semi-detached with a very typical British layout (front living room with dining room behind and a kitchen extension).

Our dining room gets very little natural light, so can be quite dull during the day, so we’re considering having borrowed light windows through to the front living room. The front of the house faces south-east and gets a lot of lovely sunshine throughout the day.

Even though lots of UK homes have this dull internal dining room I haven’t seen borrowed light windows come up much and wondered if this is because they don’t look good/ aren’t effective etc?

Would you have any advice on whether this would be a good idea and if so would just high up ceiling windows be best, or larger windows spanning most of the wall?

We use the dining area throughout the day for family breakfast, tea breaks, lunch etc. The back of the house is north west facing so it gets some nice light from the setting sun in the evenings, but this mostly hits the kitchen.

We have family room off the kitchen extension, so not looking to knock the dining room through to the living room.

Thanks so much in advance for any thoughts!
