Bungalow redesign

We have a 1970's Bungalow in Ireland which we would like to extend by 40sq m. Have got a few dwgs done but none are saying to us that's it. We are family 2 adults and 2 kids under 5. We need 3 bedrooms 1 king 2 doubles to future proof. Wishlist 2 sitting areas 2 bathrooms. We want to stay leaving in house for majority of build. Would love to see if anyone has any suggestions re layouts we haven't talked about.
It's a long narrow bungalow which we re done 10 years ago when we hadn't a family. But everyone needs there own space now as we grow. Roof pitch is not high enough to put rooms upstairs.

Can you share the designs and some pictures of the existing? Where is the main entryway(s) and where is north.

Hi. Let's not explain what HP is and see the queue of questions form. ;-)

A couple of details will help you to get the best suggestions from these very talented people. Where is south on the drawing? Do you have a preference on which wall gets pushed out? Adding to the length may be cheaper but you might prefer to extend out the back to square it up, capture light or views etc. Any restrictions on design? ( Irish planning offices have an extreme views on taste - blend in or go way different).

If you are going to do this - make sure the bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe space etc - don't scrimp ! Ideally every woman wants at least double the wardrobe space she already has !! And a walk-in wardrobe / dressing room is something that would earn any developer brownie points !! So if you have the space ... Use it well !! Breakfast areas in morning sunshine work well and evening sun in the lounge is good - inside outside fireplaces can work really well and everybody needs storage for summer /winter stuff (ski /scuba /suitcases etc ) so worth adding in storage somewhere accessible (like utility room ) for that sort of gear too ! This is an awesome opportunity for you ! Have fun !!!

not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!

It's difficult to provide decent advice with limited information. Issues to consider: - access to the front door of new house, is it level or on a low slope? - is there level access from all external doors? i.e. no steps up or down. Do you need a ramp building with handrails? - is there a toilet downstairs? Do you need mobility aids like grab rails and emergency call systems? - doors need to be wide enough to get through. Assuming you use a wheelchair you may need wider doors. - is the new house on a single storey only? Bungalow? Obviously better if it is as there are no stairs to navigate. - steps and stairs generally - try to avoid properties with these or make sure they are limited or have a low rise and large tread area. - age of new house. The newer it is the more likely it is to more suited for accessibility. The older it is the harder it will be. New houses have access requirement regulations to comply with. - do you need an accessible kitchen? Larger space needed with low worktops for wheelchairs? Not sure if this is any help but maybe it is..?

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. North is where the ensuite is, South is where HP is, restriction is we have to build behind house to be able to build without planning.

I' move the main entrance to the South, under a covered canopy (might be exempt from pp?) This would lead into an open plan kitchen and living room. A hallway at the back leads to 3 substantial bedrooms and a bathroom. I didn't fit in a second living room but each bedroom has plenty space for hobbies, quiet space etc. Good luck with your plans I'd love to see what you decide.
