Struggling….Narrow living space

Hi - i’m really struggling how to make the most of this living space. It will be a kids/family chill out living room with comfy sofa, tv and ideally good built in storage for kids. My plan was to make the smaller back area into the ’play zone’ with built in wall storage with shelves and cupboards. An L-shape sofa infront of tv above fireplace and a bit of alcove storage potentially.

But in reality it is (although a long and decent sized room) too narrow and i don’t think my dream plan of the above will work

Any ideas on how i can make this room work as a living/play area hugely appreciated. am i missing something ?!

I like your idea of built in wall storage at the back for the little ones. I would avoid an L-shaped sofa as the ottoman part is usually fixed and will cut into your living room space. A 3 seater sofa with a loose ottoman or footstool is much more flexible. Do you already have your furniture? If not be sure to get the measurements of any sofas you are considering and then mark them out on the floor so that you can get the best arrangement for the space. Just keep playing around with it and don't put too much in there to start with. Build it up slowly. A good idea is to work out how you will use the space first.

hello, instead of a sofa.....maybe try 2 big cushiony chairs and a shared ottoman that can double as a coffee table/facing each other in front of the fireplace? This is a small space, lets accept that. Moving into the kitchen you can have a table with chairs and in the event you have a party, people can sit for the meal and hang in the kitchen. I like small spaces, it forces a creativity and the need for utility in design, and less room for clutter!

I'd paint white the TV wall in oder to make it visually higher and to hide the white color of the door, now the dark color under lines that it is rather low and different from two main doors color and height of third one. I like brown FP wall, it works good with sofas and will attract eyes visually raising the ceiling above TV furniture. And one more thing I'd think about: the 1-st photo shows that there are too much unconnected different heights (doors, mirror, TV furniture, FP wall, ceiling). Definitely some heights are needed to be connected. I'd put lower the mirror and the shelf above FP so that the TV furniture and the mirror up lines were the same height. To bring more colors into the room as it was mentioned above I'd pick up some colors from the art work for cushions and curtains.

Move that desk setup from the left hand side - it's not working. Remove pictures and clutter. Paint the recessed area to the left and the recessed area behind the chimney breast wall a darker colour, this will make a feature of the wall. Have an inset stove if possible it will make the space seem bigger. You can get a metal hearth which can be put away for the summer. Replace wall lights with something like rectangular plaster ones that blend into the wall. Hang small pictures in clusters or put them somewhere else and invest in a large picture beneath the velux. Make the focus on that back wall wide and low. Place log burner low in the wall and get one that is landscape format. If you have the wiring in place maybe hang a HUGE pendant light (wicker or paper). Good luck.

Just looking for some advice on giving this half of our kitchen living room a face lift. want to get new table and chairs, possibly extending, as this is just about meeting the needs of our expanding young family. The couches are large and clumsy however not sure if we can afford to change these. would live some suggestions on table, chairs, TV positioning, furniture position. Thanks.
