I have a ground floor flat in Camden, London (UK) with an extension at the back that currently has a PVC window. I’d like to replace this window with a patio door. No other structural change to the extension. Do I need to apply for planning permission for this?
(Current timeline for planning permission where I live is more than 8 weeks and hence the question)
Hi, we didn’t need PP when we did this changing 2 windows to patio doors, however I appreciate that there are different rules in different areas. Most councils have a website planning portal where you can access advice / telephone for advice about this sort of thing without actually putting in an application for PP. It would be worth taking a look at your local council for this.
Flats unfortunately don’t have the same Permitted Development Rights (PDR) as houses so i think you’d need planning (the same for houses if it’s listed, in a Conservation Area or if there’s an Article 4 Direction in place which removes PDR). I assume there are also a lot of Conservation Areas in Camden anyway!
are you freehold or leasehold as you may also need permission from them?
