Kitchen -Dining Room Knock Through Dilemma

Whilst I’d love to extend the kitchen into the garden patio space, funds just don’t permit that at the moment .
The dining room doesn’t really get used which is a shame as it’s got bifold doors ( which again I’d eventually like to change to a crittall style )
I’m having the wall between the kitchen and dining room knocked out ( not structural all checked by structural engineer ) . The pier at the end is staying it’s structural and actually I don’t mind it at all it’s a useful cupboard .
I can’t decide if its best to block off the existing dining room door - that would allow a radiator to be put where the door was & would leave room for a sofa on the wall adjoining the sitting room - or leave the door !?
And how high to take the knock through ?
I’m tempted to leave it at the existing picture rail height rather than all the way to the ceiling as it’s an Edwardian house and I don’t want to go the whole hog with a totally modern interior .
Any suggestions gratefully received as it’s easy to find totally open plan spaces and sitting / dining room knock throughs !
Thanks in advance
