Window over kitchen sink

I would like to have a large window over my sink and it’s hard to find something under 2k. Would it look silly to hang a French door horizontally? The kitchen overlooks a solarium —I just want to let in some light without spending 2k. Also, I know the bottom would have to be evened out to match the top. Idk…dumb idea or am I a genius? 😆💕🙏🏻Also, be kind, please —it’s my very first question, on houzz.

Are you looking for something the same size as that door? Is it in timber? That price seems high.

Also you can’t just place a door there because a window needs a frame.

Thanks for all the replies. I have the blind ordered so I cannot change this. However, if it were to be fitted to the outside frame of the window, it would be let down on top of the tap. I`m not planning on tiling, as we`ve recently repainted the kitchen. I am trying to attach some photos from this website to show examples of pelmets that may work. Is there a way to do this??

Why don't you have an L shape and use the area under the window also for your sink and a couple of extra units? you could add shelves on either side of the window? Not sure why your fridge has to go at that end? might be best at the other end? As Sarah, suggests, get full height cupboards, and put the microwave in one of those, so that you're not losing so much space. Extra storage is probably more useful than having the microwave on display? It can easily be put on a shelf within a cupboard. (Our isn't even in our kitchen, but then we only use it once a week or so... so really depends) I'd also suggest drawers to the bottom of your units instead of cupboards.

Hi Rachael, there are pros and cons to having a sink by the window or not. In general its down to how you want to use the room and the overall layout. I would prefer to put in the bench seat and look at the view, versus the time spent at the kitchen sink. We would build a frame, that’s not the problem. The size is perfect for the space, tbh—-exact size I would need. It is timber. When I’ve looked online, they don’t have standard windows available in that size, so it would need to be custom made.

Easy enough to even out and square the door so it would fit the frame, but my ocd would kick in and I think it will always look like a door on its side as it wouldn't look quite right unfortunately. The reason is that all doors and windows are made with 2 long stiles [the sides] and between those are 2 horizontal rails [top and bottom], even when you paint a door, you'd brush along the horizontal rails first and overlap onto the stiles a bit and when you paint the stiles you tidy it all up so your paint follows the direction of the grain. So optically, it would look like its on its side and not a proper window. You could look for a local joiner and see if they could take some of it apart and cut the top and bottom off so you could put new stiles/rails in so it looks right. Also would you not want to replace the glass with double glazed panels.
