Timber French doors - what colour to paint on the inside??

Hello, we are redecorating our lounge and having timber french doors installed. I have attached the moodboard to give an idea of color scheme, the curtains will be in the patterned fabric. We are going to paint the walls in either F&B slipper satin or little green stock (shown on the mood board). We can’t decide what colour to paint the french doors ?the same as the walls ?a lighter or a darker shade. What does everyone think? Thank you so much, Katie

I would match the doors to the wall but thats just me. The curtain fabric has quite a strong pattern so I wouldn't want to compete. That said sometimes a darker frame looks great against a paler wall. I don't think you can get testers of F&B eggshell. Paint it lighter and then if you don't like it its not so difficult to go over it with the darker paint. I like your colour choices and I think it will look very sophisticated when complete. Just a thought, consider the natural light levels in the room before making a paint decision too.

I would agree with Isla, determine how the light sits in your room, before painting. Block paint doors with wall.

Thanks Carol!! I agree...love the wood effect and that why we are going for the wooden doors, windows and floors...I guess I'm just panicking now just before we make the final decision that it might be a bit overpowering! Really appreciate your comment! Thanks!

oak architrave with painted frame?

thanks, My dilemma is that the doors, skirting and architrave are all oak but the frames are MDF, any thoughts on what my options might be to make all these items work? I want to maintain the natural oak finish by simply staining but what to do with the MDF frames??

My first instinct was to move it to a garage/basement for good storage but the more I think about it the more I think I'd prime inside and out with Kilz then apply a couple of coats of white semi-gloss (use good quality paint.. Benjamin Moore) in the same white that you'd use for all the trim in your room. Be sure to lightly sand and 'tack rag' between coats. If the handles are removable by all means remove them prior to painting...fill in holes, sand smooth and paint as previous sentence. Set up inside the way you find most functional. Buy nice new knobs ( maybe crystal?) and, if it is as tall as it appears, have crown molding installed to create a custom look. It is probably far better built than anything else you could find.

For clarity, what I meant from block painting, was to include French door frames, internal doors, wall & skirting.

I think it really depends on what you want to highlight as a feature. Apologies, i couldnt find a great image online so photo from magazine I’m reading!

This room doesn’t have a fire so the doors/garden are the focal point and dark frames always frame the view well
