I am looking to paint my lounge and i have found a Farrow & Ball colour that i like. If i use their undercoat and paint I am looking at spending £250!!!!!
Is there a reason that i should use F&B over something like Dulux or any other recommendation?
Farrow & Ball have lovely, soft colours, and I have used them a few times. Paint quality? Nothing special. I recently used a Dulux colour in my bathroom and one bedroom and it is gorgeous. A pale grey-blue called Quintessential Blue. Mind you I had to order it online as I wanted the Trade diamond hard version and couldn’t find it anywhere locally! Half the price of F&B. Dulux, and other cheaper brands have really upped their game with some fabulous colours.
I wouldn't use anything else. Yes it is worth it. The paints have far more pigment in them, there is no smell and the result is amazing. I have tried the cheaper paints and always come back to it so now I just use it as a first choice. That said it is your house and only you can decide if its worth it to spend so much money. I have never used their undercoat and never been disappointed even when painting a lighter colour Matchstick over Green Smoke. That sounds like a lot for one room is your lounge huge? I have painted large bedrooms (20 sq m) with 5 L Estate Emulsion for less than half of that cost.
i colour matched when we painted our exterior to Johnstone’s trade, the colour difference was definitely noticeable however i was happy with the colours and definitely the difference in price! I’ve tried matching for the interior once and ended up going over with F&B…If you opt for Dulux I would only ever go for their trade paint. The finish on the estate emulsion is lovely, not so keen on the modern emulsion but is obviously tougher
I've also never used their undercoat. we’re painting our bedroom atm and it’s worth saying B&Q often do a 3 for 2 promotion, they were when we bought the paint a couple of weeks ago. I think Homebase also do similar promotions from memory
I really like F&B but personally quality wise prefer Little Greene or P&P Library
I would not pay the extortionate price of F&B. I have had paint done by Johnstones (who in my opinion are far better than Crown, Dulux, Velspar etc) and can colour match. I have had 3 F&B colours done by Johnstones and the colour match was excellent. I wouldn’t use anything else.
