We are renovating an old house and have original tiles by the front door, we want to tile the rest of the hallway but worried how they will look together. Any suggestions for tiles that will go with these? (Planning on painting the stairs black with a fairly natural colour carpet if that helps).
Depending on your budget, i can highly recommend a tile shop in Derby called Alternative Tiles. They specialise in these floors and have a second website just for them: http://www.periodfloors.co.uk/. They have a special computer programme, so once you send in your dimensions, they will draw up designs until you get one that you’re happy with. (They have lots of colours and patterned tiles too!). I say it’s budget dependent - we found that the tiles themselves weren’t massively expensive, but the laying of them is more due to it being a fiddly time consuming job.
There are companies that sell Encaustic tiles in original styles so you may be able to find something that is almost a perfect match. Tiles Direct is one of them but there are many.
