Have opened up my hall way in our house renovation.
Comments (2)Wow you really seems to have made a choice of wooden flooring along with the furniture displayed. But do take proper care of them else pest or termites can ruin all your hard work....See MoreOur new home
Comments (20)Please, please, please, don't paint any of the wood. You have a beautiful setting for mid century modern décor. I can agree with removing the carpet from the stairs, however I would just want to add a jute floor covering for the stairs after. The light fixtures should probably both be changed. You even have a lovely roomy space in your foyer. I always recommend starting with the foundation of the room, which is the floor covering. Kilim, ikat, Persian or Oriental would be my choice. I would think minimalist would be very fitting in this space....See MoreOur new house
Comments (1)It's tough without photos or plans. I prefer to put outlets in the baseboards they are unobtrusive when not in use. Make sure switches are closer to door frames and not in the middle of a small space of wall. For a floor outlet. Lay out how you would have furniture in the room and plan floor outlets to be under a chair or sofa. Be sure to have switched outlets in areas where you may want a lamp to be turned on easily. Dimmers everywhere. Think where you would want switched lighting. Think about how you would use the entire space...where you would have furniture, electronics, lamp lights. Be sure to have outlets for a major electronic bank (such as TV etc.) (computers, printers, other electronics) in these areas, be sure they are on a separate circuits and nothing else is on these circuits. Put yourself in the house with all its furnishings and see how it all works...this is how it makes it all easier. Be sure cold air returns are not in the middle of ceilings or walls in major rooms, try to have them located to unobtrusive areas (halls & walkways & between spaces). Don't let them tell you they cannot. We designed our home, did the entire electrical plan, and we were the general contractor. Because we planned so well the process went smoothly. And we never had a "why didn't I think to do something different" moment....See MoreOur new outdoor seating area
