Scratches on Worktop

My husband put his drill case on the kitchen worktop and it now has surface scratches on it. Is there anything someone can recommend that I can use to get rid of them. I don’t really want to have to buy new.

Bet he’s in trouble! What is the worktop made of? I think some stone and Corian can be smoothed out, but if it’s laminate then I don’t think you can do anything to correct it apart from possibly having it vinyl wrapped.

If it is laminate you cannot get that out. It’s a new one you need. Anything sold such as quartz can be sanded out.

aaah ! makes sense now - hey any one can grow parsley, basil or thyme ! you can buy them in pots in the supermarket when (and if) you kill them !!! my husband thinks I have green fingers because our herbs always look great !!! little does he know I replace them monthly !!! lol !! and a sprig looks great on tinned soup, that you can then claim you cooked from scratch too !!!

Glass work tops easily scratch, especially if you accidentally cut food on the top - we have all done it on occasions. Suggest going for something more hard wearing and durable, as work tops do not get changed very often.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Black is a notoriously hard colour to keep clean, especially in a kitchen area. I would suggest using a laminate, especially if you are going for a slab door. There are a variety of effects that may be suitable. It has the best advantages of being easy to clean and durable, avoid gloss colours if you are worried about scratch marks. Paint on the other hand will give a different effect, it depends on what you are trying to achieve. However paint will require maintenance, darker colours more regularly.
