Need help with low cottage windows in my kitchen!

We have an old cottage with a gorgeous exposed stone wall in the kitchen, and a cream 4 oven aga to install. The aga has to go against the front wall of the house as it has to be on an external wall. However, either side of it will be windows, which are lower than standard worktop height. As I am tall, I also want my worktops 25mm higher than normal. The windows are 800mm from floor to sill. Can anyone help with ideas to fill this tricky space? We are going for an industrial style handleless walnut kitchen with grey stone effect worktops. The windows are at the front of the house, so i don't want anything to spoil the outside look!

11 years agoHi the best way I have overcome windows like this is with a small bookshelf behind the cabinet infront of the window - it means beefing out the wall 200mm behind the Aga and then having an upstand with a shelf on it behind the kitchen cabinets not by the window - will add a sketch to try and show it !!

Comments (16)I think this is a really nice kitchen - you've done a nice job. The only thing that is throwing it off are the two different floors in dining and kitchen area. I'd like to see the same flooring continued through both areas. I think you'll be very pleased with the difference it makes. Since you do not like the wood or the tile, perhaps a porcelain 12x24 tile would work for you. There are plenty of gorgeous fabrics around with beautiful damask or geometric pattern that are striking, that could be found in a faux silk or linen. Comments (8)I have same tile, size but a lighter grout. I'm doing glass tile backsplash, under cabinet lighting to make it really pop. New hardware on cabinets, painting cabinets. New sink, can't afford new appliances. But your kitchen is larger, light and nice counter tops. Don't have a clue what to do, white Formica and it's cracking, ugh.
