Is this safe? Plug dilemma

We've just had our downstairs loo/utility renovated and the washing machine and dryer are stacked in a new cupboard space. The gap is very tight and I’ve just noticed the plugs for the appliances are wedged against the side of the washing machine. The builders are still finishing off, should I ask them to move the socket elsewhere? But where as i don't think it can be close to the water source at the back? is this a fire risk? surely the plug needs clearance around it? any help appreciated!

Probably not a problem but you need to turn the power off easily. Your electrician should incorporate an accessible remote fused switch like this.

To be fair there is no regulation saying a fused spur is necessary. The only time I have ever turned off my washer or dryer is when taking them out to replace them….. at which point you will be able to get to this socket. So I say don’t worry

I still love cabinets or repurposed furniture, armoire, etc. that match the space to keep the tv out of sight and not the center focus; but if you don't like cabinets, how about a bookcase with a shelf large enough for the tv; with other items, books, etc. on the shelves, the tv is not the focal point. Or, hang the tv on the wall and hang a large piece of framed art over it and remove for tv watching. Instead of a wall safe, it's a tv . . . .

I agree with victoriabunglowranch, scrub it and repaint in one of the colours of the piece, I'd personally head towards dark and moody colours for walls, with crisp white ceilings, how about wrapping the chimney in smokey mirror in same shade that you paint the wall, I agree floor is very busy, would like to see a large rug here to keep the focus on the fireplace and I'd keep the "mantle area" free from objects, the fire place is enough, art work on side walls and floral pieces on coffee tables or buffets, I'd also choose luxe furniture and fabrics in one of the lighter shades shown in the fireplace, perhaps with a slight leaning towards art deco in some pieces and then spice up with accent cushions, art, lamps and lighting. Art Deco can carry contemporary pieces too, be brave here this could be a very special room with it's own personality and with care it will still link to the other areas of the house.

Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. Agreed but if your tumble dryer overheats or your washing machine leaks water it's nice to be able to cut the power easily.

My washing machine and all the other appliances have another plug on the wall, as Tim illustrates, for easy turning on and off. I must admit I’ve never looked at the back of the washing and it’s plug situation.

This looks very tight to me and will require you to move the machine(s) to access the plugs. I don’t have stacked machines myself but don’t they need to be separated by a stacking shelf. For the drier, I assume it is not vented so you will be using the condensing drawer? Either way, a drier produces lots of heat so I would think you should have some way of letting that heat to circulate around the machine.
