What should I do with this space?

Excuse the mess, we're getting the whole thing refurbished soon.
Hi all. We're getting our bedroom completely refurbished but unsure what to do about this space. We have a dresser table there (which we'll probably get rid of) but it's never used. We do need more storage but we're getting the cupboard on the left done up to add some drawers.
I am thinking a computer desk (allows me to remove it from my son's room) or a chest of drawers.
I'm thinking a full size standing wardrobe may not work in that space (limited width between the back wall and window (50cm). Any ideas?

I am sorry to say you don't have room. You are only giving yourself 36" in front of the ovens and only 31" for passage on the opposite side and 42" is not enough between the island and the sink. You might find a smaller 30" wide x 48" moveable stainless steel prep table and placed in the opposite direction, it might work for additional counter surface but not give you the seating you would like.

Hi Zoe, I think I would have to agree with your sister! The right grey will look warm, whilst giving the room a fresh, clean feel. Farrow&Ball do some lovely ones, have a look at Elephant's Breath or Pavilion Grey. This colour scheme with wooden floors (natural or painted) would look wonderful. Injections of colour could then be added with soft furnishings. Hope this helps!

It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. Hi Gordon I would be of the opinion you are probably best starting with a good kitchen designer. From experience we find that architects and interior designers tend to prefer to have their clients visit us initially to plan the kitchen and then perhaps a little later the interior designers get a little more involved to ensure that the style, colours, materials work within the overall project of the room or house. best of luck with the project Barry

The ideal depth for a wardrobe is 600mm as a minimum for hanging space on a rail and if you're having drawers so close on the other side, access will be tricky.

A computer desk sounds like a good idea, less is more on that wall I think and you want to have access to those new drawers you mentioned.

and a really long mirror in the centre of the wall with a slim frame to make the room feel more spacious overall.

Another option -

A local carpenter could make you some drawers in a finish by eco timber panels (really contemporary and natural looking finishes but a fraction of the cost if budgets are tight) which look beautiful, will be made to last and he can check your access to the wardrobe side for you in his design. If storage is needed, I'd be inclined to go down that route and you can dress the top of the unit to help finish the room nicely.

If you add a plain but textured wallpaper to that end of the room, that will help it to look finished too.

Last piece of advice - add lots of lighting too, layered - so ceiling downlights in the corners, wardrobe lighting, lamps, etc. They really make a room come together too.
