To fully tile or not!

After a refurb and future proofing of a bungalow we have finally got to the small shower room.

We have chosen a 90 x 90 pentangle glass shower cubicle and with the toilet and wash basin on built in cupboards along one wall. The cupboards are an indigo blue colour.

We found some beautiful 30 x 20 smooth white satin glaze tiles. There is a matching wavy textured tile which we thought would go as a band about 3/4 of the way up the wall.

Is it best to tile the whole room or just the shower cubicle?

I’d appreciate your thoughts

It’s personal taste I feel. I’ve just tiled in the shower and behind the sink as I really don’t like floor to ceiling tiling.

Personsl taste. We only tiled the shower downstairs. Upstairs we did bath and half wall behind sink and loo. I like to still have wall to paint and hang mirrors or pictures, it's still a room and I like a little homely and find fully tiled a bit clinical and cold.

Kitchen's suffer from extreme humidity variation, so you should fully adhere the solid or engineered flooring to avoid a bowing/warping floor in a few months time However, here's another viable option; luxury vinyl tiles (LVT). Generally, LVTs are 2.5mm thick, made from 100% pvc (therefore waterproof), come with a thick polyurethane wear layer that normally is backed up with a manufacturers warranty, with a wood or stone effect finish. LVTs are great with underfloor heating and unlike ceramics, they don't break when heavy objects are dropped on them and unlike wooden floors, once laid, LVTs need no further maintenance other than regular vacuuming and washing. LVTs are almost indestructible! There are many options available but us Flooring Gurus recommend going for a recognised brand. The whole idea about an LVT is for it to look authentic. They need to genuinely look like the wood or stone flooring they are mimicking. Cheap alternatives, when installed, look ... well ... awful! Try looking at Polyflor's Colonia and Camaro. Hello egreevy, Okay, yes I see, it's a difficulty but maybe not impossible... Just whether you want to try to find out more about this.. Taking windows out to paint is a bigger job but it may still be possible.. ... So for the immediate.. Paint the front door (just the door) it might give a nice finish to have the side windows white.. Then you have a bit of contrast like your image above.. and add window boxes with lovely foliage or buxus.. it will work with the green you already have... I couldn't see as my screen was dimmed.. I think leaving all the ivy colour you have at present would be really nice.. (hence my suggestion of more green!! Also I wouldn't paint the pebble dash, to me it looks absolutely fine on the house itself.. Maybe the small boundary wall at the front and a bit of the garage.. Also a flat box hedge coming over the top of the boundary wall could be nice too.. It will be lovely and green.. : ) )

Have you considered wall panels? I used Multipanel panels when I renovated my bathroom last year. Having no grout makes them really easy to keep clean. I used full height panels in the shower and half height beind the WC and basin.

Personally I find whole tiled rooms feel closed in and a bit overly cold. I would only tile where necessary.

I believe that it is important to remember the purpose of tiles in such predicaments. Any area that is prone to damp / wet conditions or even occasional splashes should be tiled to avoid future problems (especially since you are future proofing). Other areas are purely aesthetic and down to personal preference. If you need any further information, feel free to contact our tile and mosaic experts.
