Hi - lovely clean design. What did you use for trim on the niche? Thanks!

Thank you for your inquiry. The niche is trimmed with Shluter Systems Rondec Bright White PVC profile edge. I can't remember if the thickness was 5/16" or 3/8" but you can select the thickness to match the tile to be installed. You can also select a coated aluminum equivalent in same color.

Do you plan on painting your walls? I hope so. If yes than could also change your plan later. Be sure to look at the entire room before deciding how to decorate just one wall. I would consider a greige tone on the walls. As you have natural wood baseboards..(I like them), I would add tall shelves, the color of your trim to each of the alcoves. The bottom of the alcoves could be closed cabinets. Your TV could sit on one of them. Leave the backs of the shelves open for the paint to show through. You could display other art (including paintings) on them as well as books, photos, etc. I would not put a mantle above the fireplace as it looks more contemporary to be a clean look. I would place a very large framed round mirror over the fireplace, or a very tall vertical one, If every mirror were to only reflect a great view..there would be very few of them anywhere.

I have a red oriental rug, and my last house had a large red couch and a matching pair of red chairs. I went with a butter color. It blends with well and is very neutral. It made the room seem light filled in the day time and warm and cozy at night.

I think your colors are restful so I would work with those and not pop a color. Maybe some interesting artwork that had some color in it, but I think you should go for a more elegant calm look. By the way, I like the chandelier you have with the fireplace. I think I would paint the lower part of your wall the same blue as is in the top part. Then I would add some black accents in glass and lamps. Curtains that have a sheen or gold thread would be nice.

A medium color floor is easier to keep looking clean than a dark or light floor. For an open floor plan, I would choose planks. One of the main features in the design of an open floor plan is to draw the eye through the space. A herringbone pattern would be confusing to the eye. Use herringbone in a small room.
