Roof lantern- openers or no openers

Hi all,
We are finally at the stage of getting our roof lantern ordered and was wondering peoples experience of openers (either electric or manual).
Our roof lantern will be 4240mm x 1740mm (external measurements) so really feel it should have openers to let out flies and the heat but have heard mixed reviews on having openers as they seem to have a reputation for leaking.
Can anyone who has a similar lantern advise as we are a bit lost!

Having seen others post about heat gain, and living in a sunburnt country - definitely go for openers to release heat and allow cool air in overnight over summer. Also consider shading options for the times when hot summer sun super heats a room. It’s much cheaper to combine stopping the Sun heating a room, than to only have an artificially cooled room on excessively hot days.

Thank you, that was my thinking too, makes much more sense to have one! Now just need to decide on manual or electric! 😂

I'd put another set of sliding doors between the lounge and the playroom rather than a solid wall. Reason being is that it gives you more options. You get to sequester the mess and noise when you want and you still get a good flow later on when the kidlets aren't such mess monsters. I'd make both sets of sliding doors have full-length frosted glass inserts. That will let in the light. Or you could use shoji doors if that suits the decor better. From your plan, I'm assuming the house is semi-detached, so windows on the right wall aren't possible? Also, you might consider a pocket door from the hallway to the lounge and from the hallway to the utility room. That way you don't have to allow space for door swing.

We have recently extended our home with an approx 8 x 8 metre open plan living/kitchen area (there is also a utility room within this at the corner), it is a north facing room with a 6 metre sliding door and 2 large roof lights…we plan to put down a laminate floor and extend this same floor through the hall to the front door and front sitting room (both south facing)…we are undecided re laminate colour (e.g. beige oak or dominican oak)…any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!
