Fireplace replacement

Hi,

Looking for advice on renovating a fireplace.

I removed old two fireplace surrounds (Kango) with the intention of installing an insert stove and closing up the other.

I have the stove installed, insulated with rock wool, and connected to a flexi flue. The plan is to tile around the fireplace instead of using a surround. So, I have some gaps in the fireplace opening around the stove. I want to get the gaps filled and ready for tiling. I don't want to take on the job myself and was hoping to get someone in to complete the following work:

Close up gaps around the stove
Tile
Close up fireplace opening on opposite side of wall (block work and plaster)

I've gone out to handyman boards / websites and not gotten a response. What would be the best option for finding someone to take on the job(s)?

I'd appreciate any advice, I've been staring at the wall too long. Thanks

It should be possible. Most units allow an offset which would allow you to have the fireplace either left or right of the existing and still tie in to your existing flue pipe. One thing you will want to do is verify that the new unit you are buying is either compatible with the existing flue or will accept the same size pipe or smaller. This will allow you to hopefully reuse most of the existing chase and avoid getting into exterior framing, siding, and probably roofing work. There are many variables, hopefully this helps.

Ooh Darzy I like your thinking. Actually the curtains are taupe and a nearly mint green - not stripes more they blend into each other (see pic). But if I got some art picking out those 2 colours that could work. I love teal but not sure about it on this wall. Maybe coral could be nice or is that too on trend? I also have an old chair I need to get reupholstered and was struggling for ideas for that. But a floral pattern with the green and taupe from the curtains and a third colour that matches the art could work well - ideas, ideas, ideas!Thank you Houzzers I knew you'd help me to look at this differently.

If you want the look of the fireplace you posted but are scared that the dark grey will flood your room, you could paint just the one panel/side wall with the grey, paint the fireplace frame white, and then paint the rest of the room a more light neutral colour. It will also create a more contemporary look and create more focus to your fireplace. Alternatively you may feel more safe to paint the fireplace frame a neutral colour to match the neutral walls. When you are ready to replace the fireplace, I would suggest a bio ethanol burner as a simple solution with minimal DIY work and an option of different styles. Hi all, this is my current fireplace. We want to replace it as the hearth is broken and the cast iron is not really to our taste. Having browsed all local showrooms we still don’t see something that is right for us. Our ceiling here is quite low (7ft6ish) and I feel that the standard heights of 48” and 52” are too tall for our space. I would love to hear any suggestions or advice you might have. I would say our taste is quite farmhouse/cottage style. We like the idea of some pale brick element and a reclaimed wood mantle but are not sure if this is possible with our insert stove that we want to keep. Looking forward to some help!
