Bifold Pocket Cabinet Doors

Hello!

I am working with a client who wants to do bifold pocket doors @ her washer/dryer. Doors are approx 38" tall. I have looked @ Hafele hardware and they have the correct system, but only for large doors. Any ideas or processes I could do for her?

That's looking a lot better. A few followup comments: 1. I agree with bepsf that the opening to the dining (formerly living) from the entry should be an "archway" or similar opening. A pair of pocket doors would work or make sure the french doors can open 180 degrees and stay out of the way. Similarly, I'd add an opening (with french doors if you must) on the other side of the fireplace to match the ones you have. 2. I'd flip the door to the utility room to the left so it aligns with the exterior door. Much more efficient use of space OR (better yet) flip the exterior door to the east and move the countertop to the other side. This way the door won't be as visible from the entry, you'll get more countertop, and the flow will be better. 3. Sitting room - if you need to keep the entrance from the front hall, why not move the fireplace to the southeast corner, flip the couch to the north wall and use this as your formal living room (and no door). The flow into the room will be much better. It also gives you much better use of the bay window. Then you can use the room now labeled "living room" as your more informal sitting/family room. 4. Squeezing past the shower to enter the powder room is still awkward. 5. Kitchen - it looks like the island (I assume that's what's in the middle) should move to the west to give yourself enough space to have a usable counter on the east wall. 4'6" is a pretty good distance between counters.. You seem to have more space than you need between the island and the patio doors. There's also a lot of inefficient space between the fireplace and island. I'd make sure that there's either enough room for a small table, or just make the island and east wall cabinets longer. 6. One last thought - since you rearranged the use of the rooms, had you considered switching between the dining and living? I think this would make things work even better. Sliding door/ divider ideas

With a sliding door, you can have each side different to match the style of the room it faces. Here are some ideas that, believe it or not, are done with sharpies on flat surfaces. I can envision a "fireplace" on the lounge side. On the dining room side, you could do the "double door" look, by putting half on the door, and half on the wall next to the door. So when the door is closed, it looks like a pair of doors, but when the door is slid open it looks like only one door (but it's the wall!) I added the 3rd picture just because I think it's so cool. I believe the only "real" thing in the room is the glass table/desk, and the filing cabinet.

We have just bought a house and the renovation plans are coming together nicely, but the kitchen and sitting room area have me stumped! I love modern, open plan design, so I want to join the both areas to create a big family friendly space. The balcony is a fantastic feature of the house, so I'm thinking bifold doors the length of the kitchen to let in light and join the indoor & outdoor space. But that leaves very little options as far as I can see for placement of the kitchen cabinets. I have attached the floor plan of the relevant level of the house. Can anyone give me some brilliant ideas?

I can perfectly understand that you don't want an additional door off the hall, and do you really want to approach the utility with washing etc, through a hall anyway? I just wonder why you want to make the door disappear, when its not on a wall with units? If it were, it might be easy to paint it/finish it similar to cabinets, but in the middle of the wall it will stand out anyway, whatever you do. To my mind, it might be better to just put an ordinary door in there, similar to other interior ones or glass paneled if you wan the light. If you are going to do it out with similar units to kitchen, it will flow in any case, if you can see them. Several friends have done this lately and it looks fine and the continuity through the glass paneled door just seems to make the kitchen appear even larger and lighter.
