a Georgian house needs new lighting in the hall and bedroom
2 pendant lights in the hallway and one in the bedroom to be replaced for something mor in keeping with this rural Georgian 2 up 2 down-any ideas or suggestions please?

last yearLighting in Georgian times was designed to impress. The crystal chandelier was the most luxurious and Georgian hallways had plenty of floor to ceiling height, lights usually consisted of a candle in a glass case to protect it from the draught when the door was opened. I suggest choosing a bedroom lighting with opaque glass or a fabric lampshade to reduce glare and some wall lights which would add more character; for the hallway I suggest pendant lights which could be a bit more modern style but still with glass case. Please see the examples below and as a nice addition you can also change the light switches to a Georgian style ;) I hope that helps.

Comments (36)I would also definitely go white if the windows are on the green wall. Will be much more natural to tie the accent wall with the stark wht contrasting walls. Always a very chic contemporary look. Also very relaxing as opposed to the treatments standing out when you already have your standout feature- the green accent wall. Great white bed you ordered! Then I love all the blue/green/ silver accent advice. I did a similar room in purples/greys/ whites and we used great posted prints of florals with a little oriental flair in nice big mats w frames. Comments (9)Hi Louise, In a room like this I always like to keep the walls and ceilings ( including the small door and frame 1 colour...in this case a lavender. I'd start by finding colour chips that have the same colour as the carpet, and then go a few shades lighter but in the same tome. All baseboards and door to hall should be the same colour as the iron beds...off white. With the walls a colour you'll be able to see the pretty pattern of the frame. OR find a small scaled pattern of any of the shades of purple and the cream same as the bed frame) with the same fabric. Make custom bedding to match. In a small room 1 pattern works well everywhere. If you go the paint route, try to find fabric with soft gold, lavender, purple for a skirted table between the beds if there's room. You can put it on a cardboard table and base...found in some fabric or craft stores. Comments (5)I am a fan of black as a disappearing colour! If the tha bannisters were painted black the Victorian look of cast iron would fit. The walls are too pale , would you consider a dark green( FB Green Smoke) under the rail, next to the carpet, and a much lighter version above( FB Light Blue or Pale Powder). Not really sure of the shade of green in the carpet, it might be more FB Oval Room. I am fond of the Pugin look but realise it is powerful and invariably used with very dark paints.
