Bedroom colour scheme advice

Ive got a small bedroom in my recently converted attic that needs decorating, the room has no window. The carpet in the room is dark purple and the walls are white, there are two white cast iron single beds in the room (only moved one in yet). Without changing the wall colour and carpet can you make any suggestions of how you might decorate?

you cannot use a room as a bedroom that does not have another exit. get an exit roof window, then ask about decor. someone can doe a horrible death up there

Your white walls are fine and the bed, which you indicate you have a pair of, is very nice. Purple is a very strong color for carpet. You could downplay it by choosing printed comforter sets with a touch of purple and big splashes of other colors you like. Is there any way you could add a window? Maybe a skylight? I ask this because decor will not really add to the value of your home the way the addition of light and air would. If you ever try to sell this house, I question weather this room would pass code to be called a bedroom without outside ventilation. Whatever the window costs, I am sure it would raise the value of your home enough to pay for itself many times over. I would invest in inexpensive, colorful, fun bedding and a window.

Hi Louise,
In a room like this I always like to keep the walls and ceilings ( including the small door and frame 1 colour...in this case a lavender. I'd start by finding colour chips that have the same colour as the carpet, and then go a few shades lighter but in the same tome. All baseboards and door to hall should be the same colour as the iron beds...off white. With the walls a colour you'll be able to see the pretty pattern of the frame. OR find a small scaled pattern of any of the shades of purple and the cream same as the bed frame) with the same fabric. Make custom bedding to match. In a small room 1 pattern works well everywhere.
If you go the paint route, try to find fabric with soft gold, lavender, purple for a skirted table between the beds if there's room. You can put it on a cardboard table and base...found in some fabric or craft stores. Top it with a thin piece of glass ( Pier 1) and away you go.Don't be afraid of colour or small pattern in a small space, as you are going for the impact.

With the wood trim, and a white crown . .. I think the duvet color scheme wants white painted skirting and window / window sill. Then, try a softer violet on the accent wall .. .since both the red or the blue could coordinate with that but otherwise we have opposites - As a backdrop, violet can be nice with gray and white. Look at bm faded violet http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/fadedviolet#ce_s=violet and bm picket fence for the other walls, ( a soft warm off white that echos the tone of the carpet) with crisp white trim. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/picketfence If you want a deep shade, look at wood violet .. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/woodviolet#ce_s=violet the thing with a small room is that a shot of intense color can do a lot if paired mostly with neutrals and white. Great if you have a white wood headboard or padded slipcover above the bed, white matted art. . .. you do have good natural light, but with a dark wall you will want bedside lighting to be light and bright for nighttime. Here, the wood provided a gold element that was sort of helpful with the blue but will clash with where you are going.. Paint it out, and voila, you are on your way. . . there is a thread where a woman focused on white with coral - I'll find it and bring you the link so you can follow her decision making - she chose a strong accent wall in a small room and then concentrated on white and it is lovely.

I think duck egg or pale blue work best personally. Amethyst or raspberry also work. Any colour will go though as the scheme is neutral so pick your favourite colour!

Hi Orla. I've looked at your ideabook and assume you're happy to stick with the monotone look? I'd look at papering the ŵall behind the bed in Cole and son library panel wallpaper in midnight (pic will follow but it would also look good in a light shade!). The rest of the walls I'd do in a pale but warm grey. Which way does the room face in terms of lights? Go for black bedside cabinets but maybe something with curved lines or round handles against the bed. Either glass bedside lamps with white shades or in a warm metal or pendants hung low over the bedsides, Stick to white bed linen but add a charcoal throw with lots of texture. Choose cushions with different texture and patterns from White through to charcoal. Depending on what flooring you have you could also add a grey textured rug under the bed. I'd go for plain pale-mid grey curtains. If you have the space/budget a patterned black/grey and white chair would look great. I think the key thing is texture for interest so maybe also a large antiqued mirror, a chandelier with a silk drum shade, white flowers etc.

Before I make a suggestion, I need to ask a question. What do you plan to use this room for? Guests, teenagers, adolescents? Boy, girl? I think knowing the answer to that will help give you more specific help for your room.

You can put up a window mirror. A curtain like a sheer on rod to look like a window. You can use curtain to store under it.

Ok, I'm not going to wait for the answer to my question to say this. :) I would use a large, light patterned print in this room, either on the beds or on the walls. The type print would depend on the answers to my previous question but small prints in small rooms make me feel more closed in. The more open and airy the print, the larger the space feels - at least to me. Wanted to say that before I forgot! :D

In place of the window a painting by Andrew Wyeth would be a nice substitute

A room with no window is not meant to be a bedroom. There must be a way for one to escape or for firefighters to enter in case there is a fire or some other type of emergency.
