Hallway advice needed!

I want to redecorate our hallway, I was either going to put panelling on the bottom half and wallpaper on the top half but not sure if the hall is too small for this, other option is to do wallpaper and have one feature wall where the mirror is, any advice appreciated

I do like your hall as it is. Panelling might help it feel wider but there is little ŵall space in the actual hall although it would look good up the stairs. What had you planned on doing with the radiator cabinet? I might change your lights, they look good but a glass pendant or chandelier would catch the light. Perhaps update the light switch? Try also grouping some of the items on the radiator cabinet and add either a plant or some faux flowers (unless you go for real every week!) and maybe a couple of photo frames or small framed art but mix up the height. I'd also lose one of the glass vases and go for something in a different texture or colour. A round mirror or larger mirror might also work? If you go for a feature ŵall perhaps a metallic paper?

personally I would put a wallpaper behind the radiator cover and around the kitchen door and keep the rest painted and wipeable.

There's no space for panelling - leave as. Wallpaper/feature wall paint the mirror wall would look great!
Btw, what colour have you varnished your post!?

removing the door to kitchen would be easiest & cheapest way to open up & brighten the hall area. Next best, but more costly would be replacing door with one with glass panels. Look for used one in 2nd hand or @ your local Habitat for Humanity store. Keep the one you take off just in case other one gets damaged and needs to be replaced. Replacing only two panels would not achieve much I don't think. A mirror should only be placed where it can reflect something of interest & expand the room. If I recall, the staircase is what would be reflected? A photo collage frame? I think more colour is called for here. Your home, your choice. Bottom line is you decide what is right for your space. As you have likely noticed everyone has a different opinion, professional or not. Most important in re-styling a space is what the home owner wants to use the space for & to be their taste.

A niche would be a good way to add some drama without infringing on your circulation space. It doesn't have to be deep to be effective. You can do one simple vertical rectangle, and line the back with a mirror, or add some colour with paint, wallcovering or wood. It would be great if you could also add a recessed light fixture at the top. The attached images are perhaps too busy for your situation, but it gives you a good idea of what can be done. Good luck!

We're in the process of putting up wood pannelling in the hallway. Total DIY job but I think my husbands doing great job! I've included pic of wallpanneling and the floor tile in our hall. We're thinking of painting panelling white and want to put wallpaper above panelling as walls aren't great. Would welcome suggestions on wallpaper choice! Thanks.

Go for a nice bold colour like a teal or deep mustard, and keep the radiator cover white for contrast. Sone high skirting perhaps rather than panelling, keeping those white, and layer some artwork, maybe two rows of three pieces. I would also hang some pretty and thick curtains around the front door to frame it, and splash out on an oversized pendant/chandelier for effect. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the ideas, think I'll do wallpaper on one wall and get bigger mirror and get new ceiling lights and some new items for radiator cabinet

I like the idea of panelling. On Rockett St George they have convincing wallpaper panelling!

Perhaps put the mirror where the picture is nearer the front door. I assume the mirror is where it is to reflect light which it probably does to some degree but you just see the reflection of the stair rails which is enclosing so put a largish picture that adds colour but is perhaps of a view that is inviting you to another vista at the same time inviting you further into the house.

I like your hall as it is, well except the lights! Need to get as much light from your lights as possible, not shaded ones. A lantern type would probably work well. And yes a larger mirror! Try one that fills the wall as much as possible. And again like Minnie says clear/regroup the items on the shelf!

I'd probably remove all items from the radiator in hindsight. Well maybe a place for keys, as long as they couldn't be removed by thieves from the letterbox with a long implement!

I love your front door.

The question is, is what look do you think you want? Is it something light and bright? I just wonder because you could carry the colour of the woodwork that you have on the back of your front door along your skirting and paint the walls a shade ofwhite. Having dark at the bottom actually makes the space feel brighter, adding a lovely large mirror and a glass-type light would be lovely. You have the lovely floorboards and stained bannister to add warmth already.

A much bigger mirror for a start for me, to make the room look bigger. I'd get a light, neutral colour to make the hallway look brighter too (could be that these photos were taken in the evening, the space looks very dark to me). I like the arrangements above the radiator, and the colour of the stairs, look cosy. Nice!
