Kitchen layout help

Hi,

I am attempting to design my kitchen dinning room layout, I am using a free online planner.

I would welcome any advice / thoughts you have on my design so far.

I'm particularly interested in other layout ideas and your thoughts on the ease of use of the kitchen and problems you can spot.

Ideally the sink would be in this position due to the drainage.

Any comments/help would be gratefully received.

I love the way you have laid this out, however to make it a practical working space, you will need to move your sink should closer to the hob. When designing a kitchen layout, you should create a working triangle between your hob, sink and refrigerator (I have attached an image to explain).

To achieve this you could explore the following 3 options:

1. Could you position the stove on the island instead and go with a range cooker instead of separate ovens?

This way you will have a working triangle, and can use the other side of the kitchen for storage and larder etc.

2. Explore how much it would cost to position the sink on the island. As you are removing a wall, you will probably be re-doing the floor, so extending the pipes across to the centre of the room, may not be as big a job as you think.

3. Lastly you could explore this layout I have attached - it's not a kitchen island, but will give a similar feel to the room and you will have the working triangle (shown in Red).

Hi, Is the space already built or is this an extension that you still have a chance to tweak? Are you prepared to lose any doors/ windows and if so which?

Hi, we are about to have the supporting wall removed - (see below - red line) the four doors need to remain for access, the little window could go -

but prefer to have as much light as we can get. Thanks for your interest.

The long black one is the back garden door way.The smaller one on the same wall is the door way leading to extension;s corridor. The black square at the front is the door way to enter the room. The white squares are the supportive pillars for the back wall and the long one is the chimney breast. Thank you for your answer :)

Hi Fran.I think the hand-drawn design is fabulous as 1.You did not put a hob or tap in the island.....this in my opinion leads to lovely clean lines in a kitchen. 2.This design gives more space in a kitchen which is what you want. 3.I LOVE the wedge shape WITH seating. I saw one similar in a kitchen designed by Savvy Kitchens and loved it. 4. I noticedyou had drawn 2 little chairs and a little circular table also. Fab!! I love the idea of a seperate little zone near light to read/relax/enjoy garden view. Anyway...the best of luck with whichever plan you decide to follow.👍

Ok. This was my first idea for you but it involves blocking up the door to the lounge. The peninsula is just your island repositioned so I haven’t looked at different unit configs and could be made larger I would have thought. The oven and larder reposition to the lounge wall so all tall units are together and I’ve rehung the door to the hall and put some reduced depth storage behind it. This could be full height or not depending on the window.

How about this sort of layout then inspired by the pictures from “Bloordale Renovation” here on Houzz. I very nearly went with this layout for my own kitchen but I didn’t quite have enough width to do it successfully. The island steps down to become a table, sink area stays where is and then a long run incorporating fridge freezer, oven, larder on the long wall (I would personally group the tall units together at the lounge end and put hob into the island)

In your version the hob is too far from the sink, and the path to it is blocked by the island. Keeping the sink in its original location is quite restrictive I would think
