I am having my kitchen extended out and 3 /4 ways across.

last year

The extension will be expansive. I really love dark wood flooring and this works well with my present deco throughout the rest of the house as I have an all white colonialish looking hallway. However, once the extension is done, I want to put a dark wood floor throughout the whole downstairs. but I have also set my mind on a charcoal to black kitchen. the kitchen area will be very large 31 foot x 21 foot at it's longest and widest points ('L' shaped). How can I make this combination work. I love dark and moody and i will have bifold doors all across the back but I'm still concerned it may look overwhelming. Any tips on how to best make a dark wood flooring and a dark kitchen work well together? I have a white kitchen presently and am over it. I really want a dark one now.

Would be useful when planning this to work with someone who has good software who can mock things up to show you ( like we do for example ). That way you can get a feel for the looks before you shop around.

My sister has a charcoal grey kitchen with chestnut brown wood effect porcelain tiles. The room is big with a wall of sliding doors and is very bright. It works.

I think this is a really nice kitchen - you've done a nice job. The only thing that is throwing it off are the two different floors in dining and kitchen area. I'd like to see the same flooring continued through both areas. I think you'll be very pleased with the difference it makes. Since you do not like the wood or the tile, perhaps a porcelain 12x24 tile would work for you. It's very durable, so you wouldn't have to worry about the Newfies scratching it and very easy to maintain. You'd could opt for one of the wood grains on the market or one made to simulate stone. I think a greyish color would work well.

Happy to help ! I'm only a short swim away in England !! I think if you want a truly opulent cream for the kitchen cabinets - I'd suggest you get a colour match for the range ! It looks a very creamy cream ! Think it could be stunning ! Then have slightly lighter walls and tiles to keep the room feeling light and airy ! If you have walnut stain for your worktop on your island , I'd suggest using that on your exposed legs if you go for the dipped paint look on the table and chairs ! Are you having the classic CC shaped island ?!?

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

Lovely, much better than the 3D plan. V glad you kept your patterned floor tiles, I really like them. It's all come together very attractively. The only thing I'd change and this is just because I'm a colour freak is the pendants - I'd probably have made those red and orange or something. But congrats really, it looks great.
