Too much wall!

Hi, I don't really know where to start with these two walls, I already have a large mirror on the opposite wall so thought maybe some kind of shelving, it all looks very bare. Maybe some kind or corner shelf with a trailing plant? It is a dark corner so could benefit from more light. I was thinking of a large picture above the sofa on the right but stuck with the large wall, any suggestions most gratefully received! thanks

Shelving in the middle of the wall is an option, or maybe a trio of similar size artwork. Or combine the two?

The colour on your walls is lovely! We like the idea of trailing plants on some shelves and think it would be nice to combine prints, shelves and plants to create visual interest at higher levels than the height of the sofa.

hello bonnielynn75 and THANK YOU! your comment put a smile on my face re the red on the interior side of the door. It IS red on the inside as well, he insisted on that when we purchased it. no one here has it red on the inside and I wanted it to be white on the inside. do you see my dilemma?;) I agree with everything you are saying, I suppose this is the reason why so far I was not 100% sure about the black for the door either, although I like black...Agree, there is too much wall and I find the house to be looking a bit 'bland' and would like to change that. I LOVE shutters, but read somewhere that you never put shutters on wide windows, so got unsure about that, too...but perhaps just the one as I stated earlier. Would the color on that shutter be the same as the door (if I ever settle on a door color)? Unfortunately window boxes are not an option as we have quite a few cats and they may be used as litter boxes;) please don't tell me to get rid of the cats;)... Regarding the stoop (entrance) : we need to add another step (made of cement) on top of the existing step: it was removed when the new door was fitted. We were thinking of putting slate tiles or something dark to match the roof, if that makes any sense.... It is porous cement so unsuitable for painting, I think. What place in Ireland did you visit, we are close to the Irish Sea in the country surrounded by sheep;)...

Hi Travis and SoYoung - thanks for mentioning the fireplace.....I was thinking that I would keep it simple with a wood shelf over it and a large piece of Art but I now think it might be a bit lost. Would love some ideas as it needs to work with the built-ins which are slightly domineering. Also, Liam_Boyle - agree re the unbalance. The TV will be staying but I have a lovely coffee table and 2 identical sofas coming so I'm hoping to lay out symmetrically in the room. Will keep 1 of the chairs. Hope this will balance up. Thanks.

Hi. I think a Chesterfield would be nice, you can find some small ones c5ft or so which will allow for a narrow lamp table or trunk. I'd go for a ŵall to wall bookcase behind the sofa with a couple of ŵall lights affixed. I don't know what styles you like but perhaps french doors painted in a dark grey to give a crittall look. Does the tv fit in the alcove if you were to add shelves and then add art over the fire with a large mirror on the ŵall facing you? I would keep colours light (is the kitchen grey?) and although it would fill the space a little I might add a narrow upholstered footstool which you can use as extra seating and/or add a tray on one half which you can accessorise

Living room too brown

Hi just finishing a whole house renovation and my sitting room is too brown. The carpet is warm chocolate brown, the couch just arrived that I picked from a sample and it's also very brown. The curtains will be neural and the walls are parisian taupe / fleet wood. Either I need to change the wall colour or would adding neutral throws and white cousins help or even a neutral rug?

Hello! Yes deifnitely shelving or picture shelves would work for you here. I'd personally do a large picture on one wall and shelving on the other. If you look to pick up the oak (to match with your side tables/floor) it will look lovely with the wall colour. So go for a oak style frame for your image and the same for your shelving. Then on your shelves add in some lighter colour items and plants along with personal pictures in frames. You can read more on my styling shelves blogs for some handy tips here: DEN LIFE interiors

Hi syd1000, a gallery wall above the sofa would work well you could incorporate the other accent colours you have used within the room. They could be framed in simple oak frames which will add warmth and contrast against the lovely paint colour you have used. A large painting would be great and a gallery on the other side maybe. One thing that looks a little off is the size of the side tables and plant. Go bigger🤗

You should swap the settees around and the tables are too small. They look like bedroom pieces. Go for somthing bigger. Buy some interesting art that you really like, not just something that go

You definitely need a large rug to link the two sofas, to make it cosy & centred &. make the walls less dominant.
