Kitchen Island space

Hi all,
Really need advice for Kitchen extension and space around island. Due to cost decided to limit the amount of structural work , therefore the kitchen is fitted into existing and extended space . Depth is 3.2m and space around narrow island is 900.
Worried that this may be tight but have been to various kitchen showrooms where it seems to work.
Any comments would be much appreciated... plans have been submitted.

900 is fine. I have slightly less than that on just one side of my island, it’s just how it all worked out and we manage fine.

Thanks everyone. AMN - The lighting in the photo isn't great - the walls and venetian blinds are both white and the green is a wallpaper. I've a TV on one side and radiator on the other side of the wall but I do like the idea of painting it a different colour. What do you mean by "because the sectional is too big for the space already" thanks! Dar Eckert - like your suggestion of introducing another colour, I was thinking about aubergine but again it could be over modern and not the slightly warm vibe I'm looking for - what do you think? Carolyn - thanks for posting the rug, going to look it up and see about shipping costs etc to Ireland from that site. Really happy with the rooms but we've just had a baby and I want a bit more of a cosier feel with her around whilst still keeping with my modern twist!! Long post, sorry!!!

I assume you mean a wood burning stove as fireplace as opposed to a wood burning stove as cooking stove? Takes all kinds to make a world and it's not the first time I've seen the idea. It depends on the strength of the fan. Pulling too many cubic feet per minute may suck smoke and carbon monoxide into the living area from the stove. Make up air ventilation, outside air, is required for fans over a certain CFM. I can't quote code on this one, but the make up air prevents negative pressure within the house. A sealed combustion firebox is probably OK, the air for combustion on such a unit would also come form outside. The EPA rated wood burning fireplace from Fireplace Xtrodinaire is an example. Hope this helps...a call to your local building department may answer your question better.

Well, you could certainly provide some counter height stools without adding onto the counter. I would make the stools simple ones that don't call attention to themselves. Look at how the ones below are there to be sat upon but there's no overhang. The height you will need is called a counter stool. Or you have space for 2 at each end of the island with just a big of an overhang. People just like a place to perch while they chat with you while you're cooking. White stools would blend right into the island and be inconspicuous.

There will be plenty of room for you to have an Island within your Kitchen / Diner. I would possibly look into a maneuverable island rather than a fitted, to ensure that you have ample space should you cater to more than 6 guests. (I've attached a Layout). If this were a complete new build home it would need to be 1200mm walkways - so 900mm is too tight for the size of home in my opinion as a designer - if it were a one or two person home maybe - but a family home needs more . If you compromise with a freestanding island that can be moved out of the way if needed - that could be a better option.

Its a family home.... the extra workspace is really needed, thinking of a peninsula now ....

I have 900 between my island and units and it’s absolutely fine. For me 1200 is just wasted space.
