To island or not to island, Kitchen living dilemma

Hi,

I'm in the process of designing my kitchen/dining room, the room is 6mx5m.

I feel the island may make the room too cluttered and only allows us a small dining table in the corner.

Should I lose the island and if so how should I arrange the room?

There will be plenty of room for you to have an Island within your Kitchen / Diner. I would possibly look into a maneuverable island rather than a fitted, to ensure that you have ample space should you cater to more than 6 guests. (I've attached a Layout).

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!

Hi What do you guys think of having a range in the kitchen island? The thing is I want an integrated griddle too and its only available (or I can only afford) on a range. Theres no hob that Im aware of that has an integrated griddle other than the wolf and miele which are very expensive but there are a few affordable range with griddle. Is it bad or unsafe to have a range on a kitchen island? I wanted to put in the title - "Does Size Matter?" because that is what my design dilemma is all about :-). So I have learned that my kitchen design in the new build of my townhome has resulted in my kitchen island having a seam in the countertop, which I am not a fan of, and wanted to get your thoughts. I am told by the kitchen company that if I do not wish to have a seam, I would need to shorten the island to around 118” in length, which means I would lose around 20” of countertop (10” on either side) and one full cabinet. Seam or shorter island? Thoughts?
