question re wardrobe, urgent!

Hi folks,

We were quoted £400 to have these wardrobes painted. We went from a kind of yellow daffodil white to F&B All white.

Now i realise that he only painted the outside of the wardrobe, which apparently is not unusual, but also only the front of the wardrobe doors??! Like, not even around the door let alone the back of the door. Is this normal?!

Just want to know how to approach this. I have already asked for another coat (before I realised he hadn’t painted inside), so he’s coming back today.

personally I wouldn’t be happy with this, I’d want all sides and edges of the doors to be painted!

no idea if this is standard for a decorator though and it might be all he quoted for so he might want more to do the rest. unless the quote was specific you may not be able to do much im afraid. if you express to him in the nicest way how you thought the quote included all of it then he might atleast do the rest for a small fee, good luck!

My friend had her kitchen painted, and they painted the doors and all the edges but not the insides. Whether yours is a good price for what he did depends on how many days a decorator worked. Considering an average price is £200 a day (much more in expensive areas like London) having the insides painted will be more expensive. He should do the edges though.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm going to shove the expense and go for full shelves as I will be renting. Cut costs by using mdf sadly alot of messes happen coz I can't be there and have no van to buy materials myself. My wardrobe doors turned out messed up as had a circular route instead of straight lines so they're new but dated. I can't afford it but I'll definitely put up a few eccentric ideas on how to hide it and will look forward to the feedback from that! Thanks

Hi catbox/emerald18 - your kitchen is absolutely stunning - I love it - mostly because your style is the same as mine - only the tiles I've chosen are Henley Cool from Topps Tiles (sage green/blue). I've also had a few moments of indecision but I've had a picture and sample of the tiles pinned up for months and I still love them. I'd chosen matt slab style kitchen door fronts but I might be convinced by your photo to change to Shaker. I am also going for the wood worktop but can't decide whether to have a Belfast sink or not. What sink did you choose? I also can't decide on a splashback, but like white painted brick + something more cleanable by the sink and hob. Once again, I love love love your kitchen - I'm pinning the photo of it up with my tiles picture in case I get future wobbles about my dream kitchen

Hi there, How about a very pale blue? I know it's for both a boy and girl but pale blue goes well with pink. If you get a bunk bed which can be split into single beds, then on the girl side you could place metallic gold stickers on the wall or pale pink and on the boys dark blue. You could get polka dot bed sheets pink for the girl, blue for the boy or go completely neutral and go for green. Place a small desk or bedside table with a nightlight on top, maybe get their names on the wall above the bed too, or a shelf on each side with their favourite items on top. So much possibilities. Adding width BEHIND THE BED - with a headboard (which doesn't have to be a "headboard"; it could be fabric, collection of mirrors, collection of pictures, a farm gate!, small chairs or stools) across the entire width. Matching bedside tables/bookcases/chests/ with LAMPS - useful storage for extra books, extra bedding, etc. CURTAINS always warm up a room. People will always feel colder away from home - provide an extra blanket or duvet to add to the bed. I notice there is no WARDROBE. Not really necessary for overnight guests (provide hooks on the back of the door) but useful for storing your out-of-season coats, etc. There is plenty of room behind the door. Buy one on eBay and paint it to suit your colour scheme.

Personally I think you've been ripped off, sorry. It's personal choice of curse but that seems expensive to have only done 'half a job'. I would have done it myself, more thoroughly! I hope you can get him to complete the job properly.
