I think the flatness of the cabinets and the prominent grain of oak don't necessarily work well given the disparity in color. I would suggest a warmer wood like walnut that has some tans and darks blended, and a softer grain that would work well with the cabinetry.

Some great advice there! I guess I'm trying to create a comfortable elegant feel/mood to the room. It is a child-free house, so I don't have to worry about little hands marking the fabric, but I do take the point on board - will consider darker fabrics. I do like the eames style chairs, and I will look into them in more detail, although I think I prefer the idea of a soft seat, rather than a hard one. One of my main concerns was in relation to the style/finish of the chair legs.....I love the legs on the table, so I want a chair that will complement the table. Is there any particular style of chair leg I should avoid? Or finish (wooden leg v chrome leg)? Karen: I'd be interested to see which chair you went for! Would love advice on Dining table light

Hi, I have found lights I love but am unsure of configuration over my dining table. Am thinking 2 large (450mm wide) or 3 small 250mm (or 300mmm) over the table. The restriction I have is the flat roof width above the table is just 93cm wide (see where current IKEA shade is hanging). I'm worried might look a bit squeezed, The table length is 2 meters. The 3rd picture is similar but with 5 sides instead of 4. Could pick either. Would love some opinions and any other thoughts? Thank you!
