kitchen extractor hell lol

Help pls.

So we had planned to build a floating box the length of the island (8ft) coming down 15cms with an extractor hood sunk slightly into the ceiling.

We had plans for it to appear “floating” with some nice LEDs and then down lights controlled by remote control.

Now the chippy has put a couple of holes in the ceiling it appears the joists are to close together to “sink” the extractor.

We don’t want something to low as we want to be able to see across from each other, so anything more than a 45-50cm drop will make it awkward. It’s a narrow room (3.5m) but honestly, just losing the will to live.

Can anyone help with ideas of hoods? We don’t want to be spending thousands, but seems we’ve already wasted nearly £200(sparky wants £170 for custom made LEDs) on something that can’t happen. Throw in a leaking pipe and we aren’t having much luck!!

We have seen chandelier ones, but worry they tend to be about 45cms in height before cable drop, we are really at a loss and don’t want to not have one at all.

Thank you
