Design Dilemma Bedrooms

Need help with odd shaped Bedroom

I have a design dilemma. The photo below is a picture of one end of my bedroom. It's an area I really don't know what to do with. the odd shape on the left is the stairs so can't do anything with it.

Would love any suggestions, wardrobes, dressers, shelving or anything mad, I'm open to anything.

p.s. I will be getting rid of the radiator.

Hi Con,

I just saw your question. I have 3 ideas, il add pictures below.

1 - I love the idea of a platform reading nook with built-in storage at the bottom.

2 - You could build a custom desk and use it as a home office

3 - Have custom built in wardrobes made to fit the space.

Thanks Jeffrey, bluenan, yoboseiyo and dianahb. Our furniture is stacked up at the furniture restorer's, hence the odd pictures. I am going there tomorrow morning to work through the fabric samples, so I'll post a better picture then. Dianahb, I only know mohair as the wool type in throws etc. I searched on the site here and the pictures thrown up as mohair look like a velour finish to me - perhaps it's known under a different name here in Ireland. But I'm a novice so wouldn't know the names of various fabrics anyway ...! Bluenan, I like the chinoiserie idea but I think it's hard to find a pattern that would not fight with the chinoiserie handpainting on the sides and legs of the pieces. If we stripped the suite it would be much easier to upholster, but would lose some of its unique personality. Jeffrey, I love the silks idea and I will google the ones you mention and maybe try to track down equivalents here in Ireland.

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Hi Pam, didn’t notice you’re dilemma before, just had a look at it. Milky Way mural sounds interesting. Although I’m a bit confused as to which wall you were thinking of putting it on. Is it the long wall where the fireplace is? The mural itself is most likely to be very dark in colour and like you say quite difficult to tie in with traditional furniture. But it could work with with jewel tone soft furnishings (emerald green, teal, wine red etc. in sumptuous fabrics like velvet and silk). You also say you have a conservatory garden wall mural upstairs on the landing, I imagine this to have a lot of green colours so I think anything downstairs should also have an element of green to link the colours through the house and create a better flow. Personally I wouldn’t put it on the fireplace wall as I think it would be too overbearing but the area where the dining table is would be nice and you could link it on the other side of the partition with paint colour and art. Was definitely thinking you need a rug in front of the sideboard as you come in from the hall. I love Emily's idea. However, I'd keep the radiator, build a partician wall and door just past the end ..then add shelving and hanging space, big mirror and a ceiling light and make a walk in wardrobe. This would greatly add value and functionality to your home.
