What to do with awkward built-in cubby in bedroom

Hi! We have this weird built-in cubby in our bedroom and have no idea how to use it. Thinking about maybe adding some shelves or a hanging rod but not sure if the walls are strong to support it. Any ideas or recs would be greatly appreciated!

Dimensions:

34 width

34 depth

50 length

(Also does anyone know what the original use might have been?)

I would use it for storage.

It might be perfect for suitcases.

Also, out of season clothing.

The humongous trays and chafing dishes you only use on Thanksgiving and other holidays.

The white elephant wedding gifts you only pull out when those relatives who gave them to you come to visit.

Looks like where an air handler was once housed for an old A/C.
You can remove the platform top and see to be sure.
If that is correct you can take it out completely and cut off the condensate pipe and put a plug in it and use the area for a closet.

sorry haven't been on here much and havent had time or money to much about my room but should be getting to work in the next few weeks/month. I've added some more photos to give a better idea of the layout of the room and the dimensions. the first one is a view from the bed or the foot of the bed, so you can see the wall space isn't massive. The horrible curtains are waiting to be changed when I get all the work done! The second photo is the other wall to show where the door to the room is. Carolyn the wardrobe in the photo there is the one I'm going to put in the nook and then I was thinking of getting a carpenter to build shelving on the wall where the wardrobe currently is. Around the bed then would be more storage and shelves either side to act as bedside tables. As anyone any ideas for the type of shelving I should be looking to get built? I would be looking to hold - clothes that wouldn't be hanging like jumpers, t-shirts etc. I would definitely need an area for books/magazines, an area for toiletries and maybe then storage for items such as bed linen, blankets and random items like chargers for phones, laptops etc.

You could create a built in look with shelves on the smaller side and a shelf or two on the larger side to balance it out. I would do a chest ( or built in) that fits the space on the smaller side. Then maybe a longer console table on the other. You could go with wall mounted lighting if you do the shelves. I would look through Houzz at fireplace walls and find a look you love.

I am about to re-decorate main bedroom and need your help. Currently one wall has built-in wardrobes in Mahogany which I want to paint in a soft grey together with bedside lockers and dressing table. I would like one feature wall behind the bed head (bed head is a classic brass design which I want to retain unchanged) I was thinking of a wallpaper in possibly an aubergine colour; or maybe I should wallpaper the other two walls in aubergine and do something else behind the bed..... I really need your help I'm stuck. Also what colour/fabric should I have the curtains in? The room faces north-east and has a roomy en-suite fully tiled in tiny mosaic white tiles with a black/silver/glass mosaic tile border at dado rail height. Should both of these rooms blend into each other or does it matter?

Buying house- funky master bedroom help!

Hi all, we’re closing on a house Oct 1. and would like to give the master bedroom a little love before moving in... attached are photos of the room (all furniture will be removed). The room is very spacious (measures 13x19 ft), but funky. The windows look to be randomly placed, and it has very high ceilings. The bifold doors reveal a very tiny (not walk-in) closet, so we were thinking about adding some built ins? What design advice do you all have to offer? We are definitely going to replace floor, paint walls, etc. but all recommendations and ideas are gladly welcome! Thank you in advance!

Is it over the top of the stairs? I would use it for long term storage, or, if you need more hanging storage it would be pretty easy to put a hanging rod in their, properly anchored.

Paint the inside a fun color of choice and add 2-3 shelves with interesting display. Or if need space buy some baskets that fit the best first and then plan shelves.

We have one almost the same over the stairs in our third floor. Ours has shelves and I use it to store my daughters' baby items that I'm too sentimental to get rid of, but will likely never, ever, be looked at again.

I think I need to see how it relates to the bedroom it is IMO hard to even hazard a guess with no context.

1. Use to keep a safe.

2. turn into a medicine cabinet

3. add shelves and use to add a few books and some decor.

Bonus storage. Put things in there you don’t want in the basement of attic. Out of season clothes, suitcases, books, etc. Or, if you need another closet, it might be able to handle double rods.

I must have some big suitcases cause they would never fit in there. Or clothes for that matter, unless folded of course. Or am I getting the scale of this space all wrong?

I like the coffee/bar idea, or an area for keepsakes or decorative items like someone mentioned. But it looks like it needs to be done up a bit first. Would it look better without the trim?

It's as deep as a conventional clothes closet and the opening is +/-3 feet high anyway.
