What colour window frames and door for the front of my house?

Hello everyone,

I would really appreciate your help on this. I am renovating my house, replacing the windows and front door but am unsure what colour window frames and door to have. The brick is a dirty reddish brown. I've attached pics. It is such a big decision and I don't have a good sense as to what might match. I dislike white and black so those are out. Windows can be same colour as door or different. Same seems more appropriate. RAL colours, if that helps. Thank you so much!

The buiding was built in mid 80s so not sure what in keeping means in this context . the house next door is modern designer w massibe pains of glass , the one down street is bright pink, the one opposite is half timber clad , - and planning permission does not allow for my windows to be changed from how they were built. so only can change the colour. Silk purse sow’s ear situation hence only asking abour color

RAL 7044 is what I used on last house. Lovely putty/pebble/stone colour that was calm and quietly stylish. So glad you don't like white - they hardly ever go with the colour of bricks and mortar - they jar horribly. Honestly, I really wish there were a style council - who could then ban their use! And everyone seems to think if they slam in some graphite windows that = cool, when it doesn't necessarily. Put : RAL 7044 into google and you will see examples in situ. My current house has RAL 7038 (sometimes called Agate Grey - but it's not really a grey at all to my mind) which also looks great. Sales people can show you samples of these colours Either would look good on your house but I think 7044 would look best of all. Good luck!

Hello - thank you for this. I was thinking of something slightly more colourful but not sure what would work - navy or some sort of green? Or else a colour like the one you suggest, for the window frames, and a different, punchier one for the front door?

Just wanted to add something regarding the steps since I had also asked for advice on them: we had steps installed in slate, but unfortunately they did not turn out to look very nice, so will need to get redone . Was wondering if we should also incorporate some of the bricks seen on the porch, perhaps as risers covered by blue limestone or slate just to tie everything together?

Hi Becky I'm not sure what style you are looking for but try www.solidor.co.uk These are the best low maintenance front doors you can get with lots of options on colours, inside and out. We are one of their installers in Colchester and have four on display, if we are near enough pop in, if not just find a local installer. if you are after timber we supply Bereco, again go to their website, not cheap but beautiful. We also can supply Grey windows, not in 50 shades, but in 3, so you can have from light to dark. Anything else just ask. Regards Joe

Hi I have a dilemma... For a new build. I love sleek and modern and going for a high gloss kitchen with creams and nudes... From front door through to kitchen I want tiles I am thinking oak wooden floors so my question... What color interior doors do I choose? I love the look of the 2 panel white shaker door but are they a nightmare with kids and traffic and keeping clean? Also what color window frames would you suggest for this? Thanks a million

Definitely have fun with the front door. But I would still have a stoney colur for the windows. And I would paint that lovely lintel same colour as the window frames, I think. Or the door. Anyway, go on pinterest and put: "mews houses" in the search; loads of stunning ideas there. Your house lends itself to so many great options, including painting the actual brickwork as per the pics you will see on Pinterest. May I politely suggest you remove the trellis, too? Good luck.

Yes the trellis - everything - is coming off. New door. Not dissimilar to the second image you sent. I would love to paint the brick but that's for another time and budget. My brickwork is a very turgid brown so it is difficult for me to envisage what would look good. I have looked at quite a few images online but most mews houses have a sandier colour brick while mine has dark red tones. Also.. I lack vision!

Hello - they are single-pain double glazed Danish aluminium windows, can choose from any RAL colour. The whole facade is changings, so imagine bigger windows and an actual front door. The picture gives you an idea of the style. I would love feedback.

Your existing windows are already not in keeping with your neighbours, im not sure your new windows improve that

every house in our mews was built in a different year and a different style and there is no uniformity in design or colour - thankfully

Agreed, however they all have white windows and a divide of some kind across the glass, be that the bottom of a sash or opener or a glazing bar. None have just glass.

I'd definately put windows in which had some sort of divide to keep it more in style with the age of the building. Like the pics posted by George. I'd be tempted to go with a mid grey.
