Bora Induction Hob - Recessed

I recently had a new kitchen installed including a Bora X Pure induction hob, which is fantastic. I’d paid the worktop company extra to have the hob recessed into the worktop.

I’ve been left with an expansion gap that is bigger on one side than the other. Some parts of the expansion gap have had a rubber seal fitted but not the whole way round. Both the rubber seal and the surface of the hob are not flush with the worktop, meaning that a lot of very small bits of food are being caught in the gap.

Wondering if anyone can offer some advice as to whether this is to be expected or the result of poor installation?

Hi Sarah, in the box comes small packers...that the worktop company should have used to pack the system up to the level of the worktop. Then they should have sealed all the way around the hob with a stone silicone sealant. We normally advise a matt black.

Thanks so much Luke - so if the system is not at the level of the worktop they perhaps haven’t used the packers? There’s like a small lip from the worktop down to the hob. Is there a standard size of expansion gap that should be used?

Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. It’s great for catering for big events. However, I use the 4 ring induction hob on a daily basis. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your project, Claire

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Hi All, I am trying to decide on a recirculating extractor and the kitchen company I am going with are really selling these Bora basic extractor hobs for the kitchen island. They seem like a good idea and look great but I am finding it very hard to find online reviews from people who actually have them & use them in their homes. the lip is where the packers are placed to raise & level the hob to the worktop. You can use our packers or others... but the others might need cutting in half. The gap should be around 2mm

Hi Luke - we were advised to use heat resistant sealer which is very difficult to apply and looks very amateurish despite 2 professionals having a go. Can you recommend a good brand? Thanks. Mina

Luke, are you still here? if so a few questions. I have just had my PUXA hob fitted flush in a Quartz worktop which is white. As in the pics above, there are very tiny 'chips' in the cut edge of the quartz. Would a black sealant not accentuate these, and would white not be preferable, as at least the glass edge of the hob is perfectly straight so the sealant would be less obvious?

Also is this OTTO stuff Ok to use on Quarrtz as this is not natural?

Hi Adam, its hard to say.. i think i would still advise to use Matt Black. The ottoseal S70 is the best stuff & will be perfect for Quartz. i think you could also buy the white version online.

@adamson_innes I have clear silicone which is very forgiving. When applied it doesn’t actually look clear it looks like the hob colour

Hi Luke,

I have ordered some matt white S70 so will see how that goes.

What are these 'packers' you mentioned? There were no packers in my hob box.

you will have some packers in the clear plastic bag ..that comes in the mouth of the extractor.

Hi Luke

pls advise - i had a Bora X Pure installed but wasn’t given any idea that it could be flush or surface mounted. On installation, it now stands off the quartz worktop and is not flush once the rubber seal had been put on underneath !

Is the seal supposed to be put on underneath on top of the worktop, or can it be put on around the induction against the worktop as that would then sit flush?

Pls advise thx.

Hi the seal is used as a barrier between the glass & the worktop. the hob is then clamped down using the provided worktop clamps ..which squeezes the seal so the glass should be just sat on top of the worktop.

Flush fitting means that the worktop needs to be prepared with a rebate to accommodate the hob.

Thx for the advice, the worktop company haven’t left a rebate. Is it possible to take the rubber seal off and let the Bora just sit flush, as it already was prior to it being connected?
