We have lived in our house for just over one year and even though the floor space is a great size the kitchen is the worst room downstairs. The kitchen is very dark and quite narrow (at the front of the house) at the moment. Should we move our kitchen to the current family room (overlooks sizeable garden) and add an orangery type extension? We considered knocking the wall between our kitchen and dining room but it’s just too narrow for the type family kitchen we want. If we moved it to the family room - what would the old kitchen become? Also our front entrance opens into the utility room - would you move this to the study and then create a proper entrance hall in the utility room? Or any other ideas would be really gratefully received. Thank you so much.
So, has the approach to your property changed at some point? Because I would expect your entrance hall and front door to be at the front and not at the back? Could you turn it around again?
If not, maybe move the front door to what is now the kitchen, making the kitchen part entry hall and part utility (dividing wall). Then you could perhaps create one large kitchen/diner/family space from the current utility, office and family room. The current dining room could be an office?
Obviously all depending on whether all that would be possible re: load bearing walls and all that.
