Clad or replace stairs

The original stairs are wood with a red tone. They do not go with our new wood floor or general look from our refurbishment.

One company is offering a cladding service - replacing the bottom two steps completely and covering the others with a darker non red wood. We plan a runner down the centre of the stairs.

Will we be disappointed with cladding - look and sound? Should we replace instead?

Cladding is fine if done correctly. Often when having a stairs refurb and you have a newel at the bottom and top (which is generally the case) then these are cladded. They’re rarely taken out and replaced as there’s no point.

I would ask the company if they have any photos to show you of something similar they’ve done for customers or see if they have something on their website.

What’s the difference in price between the two different jobs?

Thanks for the feedback, we had something similar in mind. Would you suggest bringing the door out to the front? What about the windows either side, we would think about replacing maybe in a different colour, possibly grey, and add some cedar cladding to the house front and paint walls grey. We are also toying with the idea of bring double doors out to the front with arclight over head and then to add coving around the windows with arc that mirrors the arc light to try and soften the whole angular look to to the front. Mid grey/charcoal colour would make the pink look very chic and modern. It is also a great colour (we have it in our house) as its light enough that it doesn't show every crumb etc and dark enough to get away with not having to vac every day!

These are stairs in our new house which I have sanded. My engineer / architect absolutely hate them and want to replace. The whole house is a 70s refurb needing everything reconfigured and re done. The stairs are the only thing I like. I like the iron and considering painting in farrow and ball railings. Rest of house will be minimalist modern, a bit mid century furniture. My engineer thinks it looks like a garden gate. I know cleaning will be a nightmare. Maybe I should replace iron with glass? Any opinion welcome.
