What is the size of your ceiling and slope of the vault?

I love this look! We are building now and have a vault planned for our kitchen. I am extremely nervous with how our cabinets will look. I'm nervous about having too much space above. I am wondering what height your ceiling starts at and what the height is at the peak. Also, how tall are your kitchen cabinets? Thanks so much!

Good morning Jenna,

Thank you for reaching out to Four Elements Construction! This is a project from a couple of years ago for some very nice clients, and the photos from the project are among some of our most popular. I believe the ceiling on the right outer side starts at the standard 8 foot height which is roughly the same as the cabinet height. The height at the peak of the vault in the centre of the home is roughly 12 feet.

I think you're right to change your plans tbh, I think pic 1 and 3 would work. Another option is a suspended woodburner. It's obviously not a divide but it gives you the break in the ceiling so acts as one. The first one attached is from fireplaceproductsUK. The other 2 are just images from leotrippi and homedesignht to show how they can act to divide a room. A much more expensive option is a glass fireplace, this is from acucraft fireplaces. I'm not sure how easy it is to find UK manufacturers/suppliers though. Alternatively you can just break the room with furniture layout and ceiling lights. The lights if hung properly ie at differing heights, clusters etc along with floor lamps will stop that cavernous feel. I can't obviously see the plan but if you're really set on a divide, and they are great!, you could set it off a side wall rather than down the centre of the room.

Hi there, If you are looking to create an opulent feel then we recommend looking at Traditional Interiors and taking points from these and applying these to your contemporary living space. Personally, I would rather not have the space between ceiling and tall units - would take units right up to ceiling. Something just doesn't sit right with me with regard to spacing- in particular the very small space to the left of the hob. Like others I feel there are too many colours and would have had the island in a grey - but I love the colours of the walls. I like the shelf - but not pushed in the corner like that!! One of the first things that caught my eye was the different colours of door and window frames in the house- I would have kept them all the same.... Not going to mention the stools!!!! I love the rounded units and would have opted to have rounded edges on the island to be in keeping, personally. Finally, this all sounds rather picky but we all know it is down to personal taste and overall it looks very nice. THANK YOU for allowing us all to put our two pennith in and our would be designer hats on..... I love these articles and it does give us food for thought!

Rule of thumb is usually 2/3rd's the width of the mantle is a size that will look comfortable. Over mantle mirrors do add a 'finished' feel and look very sophisticated but it depends what style you're really going for. I quite like the window style mirrors you can get now for a twist on the traditional over mantle mirrors. Can tie classic to industrial or mid century quite happily.
