How wide should I go with Bi Fold doors and material

We are creating a new dining room which will have bi folds in. The dining table (8 seats) so around 180-220cm (not yet bought) will sit in the centre of the new doors. Our builder has recommended going 2.5m with the doors. Though we could get away with up to 3m. Do you think we should go as big as possible? I presume it will be 3 paneled
He also suggest UPVC rather than aluminum with budget. Those with UPVC what are they like, are the frames too chunky?? Or do we stretch the budget and ensure they look better.
There will be a window next to it which would be white, would we want to match this? How much of gap between the two would look ok? This picture is what I am using to help plan the space as its very similar to what we are creating.
I have included current floor plan, but we are removing boiler and that middle wall to create one big space. The other thing there is a back door from kitchen on the other left hand wall

Above is current layout. Dining room will be in the other space to the left once wall is removed below is an idea to what it coul look like

The wall that's coming down between the rooms, is it structural? Wondered if there was going to be a beam doing directly into your doors? If so, I'd want to know exactly how low it comes, how tall your doors can be as beams can be thick! And I'd want to draw sketches to see how it lines up with the door panes etc as I'd be particular about it lining up in a certain way!

Hi Janis Unfortunately I am not in the Boston area - I live in Ireland! Yes there are red items in 3 of the main rooms, the kitchen, sitting room and tv room (library) - although we have pared those back now and it's not as overwhelming. thanks for all your help everyone, i really feel like it's made a big difference and am excited to finish the tv room and then refresh the play room. do you think I should move the piano to the sitting room? and would the jazz painting work in the tv room? speak later, thanks!

Mary, I am very glad to hear from you. I think of you often. It hurt me terribly when that unthoughtful person said what she said. I can only imagine how it must have hurt you. I would love to see how you have decorated for Christmas. I am almost certain there are differences between how our 2 countries do it. hello bonnielynn75 and THANK YOU! your comment put a smile on my face re the red on the interior side of the door. It IS red on the inside as well, he insisted on that when we purchased it. no one here has it red on the inside and I wanted it to be white on the inside. do you see my dilemma?;) I agree with everything you are saying, I suppose this is the reason why so far I was not 100% sure about the black for the door either, although I like black...Agree, there is too much wall and I find the house to be looking a bit 'bland' and would like to change that. I LOVE shutters, but read somewhere that you never put shutters on wide windows, so got unsure about that, too...but perhaps just the one as I stated earlier. Would the color on that shutter be the same as the door (if I ever settle on a door color)? Unfortunately window boxes are not an option as we have quite a few cats and they may be used as litter boxes;) please don't tell me to get rid of the cats;)... Regarding the stoop (entrance) : we need to add another step (made of cement) on top of the existing step: it was removed when the new door was fitted. We were thinking of putting slate tiles or something dark to match the roof, if that makes any sense.... It is porous cement so unsuitable for painting, I think. What place in Ireland did you visit, we are close to the Irish Sea in the country surrounded by sheep;)...

The kitchen is an extension, the "new dining area" would have been the old kitchen so no structural wall will be knocked down.

Below is the outside. The current window will be moved and will fit in opening of French doors and bricked up. And bifolds will go where small window is need to know how big to take it. And do we try and match up the frames and go white PVC or aluminium??

Below wall will be knocked down to create one big space through. It's a stud wall so will be leveled off. No beams

This will be new dining area with bifolds

Hi Rosanna, why bifolds? I think it would be nicer as a sliding door as it’s not a huge area. Then you’d only have just one bar in the middle. Like this

Just a note about the size of room v size of dining table .... if you leave a walkway space of 1m each side of a table this won’t seat 8 ! So perhaps aim for a banquet seating with rectangle table rather than a round one.
